Blue spray paint...

My friend spray painted her ugly brass chandelier black when she bought her first place. It was intended to be a temporary inexpensive solution until she found something she loved, but it actually turned out beautifully--not streaky or cheap looking at all. The bead work/hanging crystals on your inspiration would be trickier. Could you live without that aspect? I don't imagine spray paint would look good there.

Buy one and spray paint it? That is probably what the people did for the one in the picture.

You can buy wonderful colored glass chandelier replacement swags and drops etc. If you can find a chandelier in a configuration you like for not too much money, you can buy the replacement "crystals" and match a paint for the body to them so they wont be opaque. Might look pretty cool and a little fresher than painting everything.

I agree with Catherine and MsJM. I found an old chandelier at a garage sale (or a thriftstore, Craigslist, whereever you can find) and spray painted it bright yellow. Hung it on the porch with little tubes glued into where the light bulbs would normally go and turned it into a hanging flower vase! Of course, you could do the same for a functioning chandelier as well.

Spray Paint and just detach anything hanging, lay it flat and spray paint it that way.

That is not a Murano chandelier -- looks very much like a cheaper chandelier that has been spray-painted -- like the one in this image (they used BASF automotive paint):

Agreed, spray it. And crystals of all shapes and sizes are available on Ebay if you want to get creative giving it a total makeover.

I'm with the spray painters on this one. I've sprayed a chandelier pink. I removed the crystals and sprayed those with a pink spray for glass, so they were translucent...looked pretty slick!

Spray paint, for sure. Find a cheap chandelier at the flea market, take off the crystals, paint it blue, then attach the crystals back. Easy peasy, and much cheaper than buying.

I pasted part of this spread into my inspiration binder. Unfortunately, I don't remember which magazine it was from, but it may have been Country Home. (RIP)

The designer said, in part: "The chandelier is glass and I painted it with blue car paint."

Oh! I just found more in the caption: "Blue chandelier is painted with BASF automotive paint."

If I spray paint a glass chandelier won't it lose its opaqeness and will just look flat right? I'm not sure that's the look I'm going for. I'd ideally like to buy a sky blue murano glass chandelier that's blue for $2-$3K.

There's option in between painting the whole thing and having no transparency on the crystals...and that is to paint only the body of the chandelier, and add the blue (see-through) crystals.

I've seen these chandeliers in homes in the Netherlands and sold in Dutch lighting shops, particularly in Haarlem.

You might find some for sale online by searching for Dutch design, Dutch lighting, etc.
