Q: As I am preparing the nursery for my new baby boy, I would like to find wooden alphabet blocks to spell his name. I'd place the blocks on a shelf for display. Where could I purchase alphabet blocks individually, rather than purchasing a full alphabet set? His name (which I'm not revealing yet :) has one of the letters repeated twice.

Editor: I can tell you two places and, readers, please chime in with sources you know of. The first is a company called Craft-E-Family which we profiled a few years ago. The second (where I ordered single blocks for my son) are Create-A-Name blocks by Lindenwood which I included in a list of inexpensive party favor ideas. Good luck!

Lindenwood makes blocks under the Uncle Goose name, which you might have seen before. http://www.what-if.com/SECURE/lindenwood/createaname-blocks-p-56.html
Very high quality blocks, made in the USA, lovely detailing; I'd request a larger set and then add a few extra pieces to spell the name, my son learned his first 26 animals with the blocks
I love, love LOVE this Etsy shop that sells wooden blocks in your choice of letters, VERY reasonably priced - plus i love the natural and modern look of the stained wood. http://www.etsy.com/shop/littlesaplingtoys
There are a number of Etsy shops that custom paint wooden blocks for baby names. Just do a search and you'll find a number of cute options.
i'd suggest Etsy as well. i also LOVE littlesaplingtoys (linked by hoxit_rocks_it) though i've yet to buy from them (on my wish list!).
just search for "wood block letter" or something similar and pick a listing that floats your boat!
All of the blocks I've seen have letters printed on each side. Blocks are cubes, and cubes have six sides, so each block has six letters on it, and each letter appears on multiple blocks. Unless your son's name is 26 letters long (and so needs all the blocks in a set), I would think a regular set of blocks would do you fine.
The Etsy seller thejoysofjess makes great custom blocks for just this purpose, you can see some of the ones she has made in her past sales.
I adore little sapling toys too. Their products are amazing, and your little one will be able to play with the blocks too. Their finish is incredible.
There are a variety of Etsy stores that will custom make a set of blocks just for you, in whatever names, colors and patterns you choose. Just search childrens alphabet blocks. One store I love is Aunt JJ's attic. The blocks are different sizes and can be made to match your bedding as well.
Why not buy a thrift store set for a couple of bucks and do your own letters? If you got blocks with flat surfaces you could decoupage the sides with letters and backgrounds created on your computer, and use each side for a different stage of his/her life - infant, toddler, school-age child, teen. It could be so much fun to do!
craft stores sell plain wooden blocks. you could make your own!
I made my own blocks for my son's room since I couldn't find blocks that suited what I wanted. I bought plain blocks from Michaels (I think they were .99/ea.) Then, I sanded the blocks down and painted them and put the individual letters on each block, then mod podged the whole block. You could also use card stock or scrapbook paper and mod podge the blocks.
