Q: Last year my husband and I stayed at the Wit Hotel in Chicago for our Anniversary. They had this amazing grouping of prints in the room and I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can find them for purchase? I'm considering making my own, but am at a loss for inspiration on the words/phrases, so I'm toying with purchasing them. Any ideas....?

That type of typography that reads the same forward/back or upside-down/rightside-up is called an ambigram.
Take that word to the google. Should give you a good start.
I love those.....I'll just have to see if I can make them myself.
And googling ambigram wit hotel gave me the artist's name: John Langdon. And his website, http://www.johnlangdon.net/
yep, that's definitely john langdon. i love his ambigram work.
Thanks everyone! Seems silly that it was such an easy answer, ha!
What's funny though is when I went back and looked at the photos I had taken it took me 10 minutes to determine which way they were hung on the wall - had to use the reflection of the chandelier to figure it out, but then AT posted them sideways. :)
Glad you posed the question, else I would never have heard of this artist. His work is fantastic!
According to another blogger (who also stayed at the Wit for her anniversary) she stated he does custom work... So with that said I've submitted an email via his website in hopes of getting something custom done!

I did floor work at a tattoo shop about a year ago, and the girl there had used an ambigram generator to combine her name and her mom's name (or something like that). If I were you, I'd combine meaningful words and make your own.
I have a book of those pictures.
The BOOK is called
"wordplay"
written by graphic designer John Langdon
Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Publishers
copyright 1992
"Symmetry" and "Ambiguity" are definitely my favorites. The self-referential quality is amusing. Of the works in John Langdon's public portfolio, though, I'd say that "Art & Science = Philosophy" and "True/False" are my favorites, by far.
