Q: I am decorating a new apartment, and am looking for interesting geometric fabrics in rich materials for various uses, and am having a hard time. I guess a loose generalization of the style I'm looking for would be Hollywood Regency...lattice, hexagonal, greek key, etc. I mainly am looking for things apple green, gold and white.
Although I'm also interested in "garden" or jungle prints like your grandparents may have upholstered their outdoor sofa cushions with in the 70's.
Odd request maybe, but do you have any ideas of websites, designers or shops? I live in NYC.

joann actually has some nice stuff right now... i bought some green geometric home decor fabric there last week. they don't have the one i bought online, so i'm assuming they have more in stores. check out the fabric by dwell studio and waverly. http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/productdetail.jsp?pageName=search&flag=true&PRODID=xprd943937
While we are on the subject, does fish scale patterned fabric have a name other than fish scale? (It's the pattern that is on the wall above the fireplace in Samantha and Jacob's Small Cool entry from today.)
ps. thanks for the tip that Joann's has dwell fabric!

they have great fabrics....
while we are on the subject of fabric in NYC, does anyone know where i can get curtains made in NYC? i have a very large window and am having trouble finding someone to make curtains with my own fabric. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm curious to know if anyone has found any (inexpensive) online services for then taking the fabric and having drapes made.
I don't live in NY so you would have to find a local upholstery store, or even fabric showroom but as an Interior Designer I like to use Kravet http://www.kravet.com/ and Robert Allen http://www.robertallendesign.com/ Both manufacturers have a wide variety of price points but the joy is you can search by color/style/use and then jot down the numbers and start calling around to find a good price or order a sample.
I hope that helps!
As far as the garden or jungle prints I think of island prints that went on rattan and reed furniture , fabrics like this-

I thought this was a nice pattern would mix with the style you are looking towards-

Lee Jofa (in the D&D building) carries Kelly Wearstler fabrics.
Ballarddesigns has some lattice-y/trellis-y fabrics (by the yard, or on their stuff).
And Calico Corners has a Ralph Lauren Greek Key available via their website (you have to call a local store, but they will ship.)
You best bet, though, for biggest choice, is getting in to the design buildings. Fabrics is one of the best places to splurge.
For those asking about curtains, most upholsterers will make them.
If you just need hemming, or hemming and a rod pocket, try a reputable dry cleaner that offers tailoring services.
I forgot this source, there is a tone here-

LoriSF, great link! I also notices that most of the patterns are available in wallpaper too! Thanks!
I live in NYC, too and while there are great resources for fabric in the city (Mood & B&J), their upholstery selection isn't great and what they do have is quite expensive. I recently made a trip down to North Carolina to the LOOMCRAFT OUTLET (http://www.loomcraft.com/). Unbelievable!!! Their selection is outrageous and the prices (most around $12/yd.) are fantastic. Honestly, it was cheaper to fly down to NC and buy fabric, than it was to buy it in the city. Many of the fabrics they sell are the same as what you see in stores in and around the city. They also sell online (and will send swatches). Check them out, they are fantastic!!!!

Their search function is not very robust, however, they source thousands and thousands of fabrics. Search "key" , "leaf" , "animal"... or click on the fabric categories in the left channel. You'll note that if you search "botanical" you'll get fewer results than if you click the botanical category.
Their swatch service is *not* cheap ($10 per), however once you have the fabric maker and number, you can do a web search and possibly find a cheaper swatch service. (I've done this frequently for Duralee and Robert Allen fabrics).
Kelly Wearstler for Schumacher:

Question: is $30/yard a good price (that is what the Joann fabric was going for)? I head to Downtown L.A. for everything, and my grandma would shoot me if I bought fabric for that much. I made curtains, duvets, and pillows and I don't think I went over $10/yard. Is it that pricey because it's designer fabric? Sorry I can't help with the post.
another note about joann's... all of their upholstery fabric was 50% off when i was there last week
