Finding the right alarm clock is more difficult than it seems. It's hard to find a clock that combines good style with the basic functions you want, whether you're looking for a travel size, combo radio/alarm clock, iPod dock, or even just a working alarm that looks and sounds good. We've rounded up 10 good sources, with product links and more info below.

  1. A+R (Los Angeles/Online): Among the many cool artist-designed products they sell, we like Sam Hecht's Jetlag Alarm Clock ($40).
  2. Flight 001 (NY/SF/CH/Online): As a travel store, Flight 001 has a good selection of small, portable, and well-designed alarm clocks, like the Pick Up Clock ($30).
  3. Amazon.com (Online): Their huge online selection of clocks includes the Lexon Cubissimo Clock TQ ($44).
  4. Tivoli Audio (Online): Their well-designed clock radios and speakers have a vintage look to them, like the Travel Song Book Clock Radio Alarm ($200, shown above). They are expensive, but the quality is good.
  5. Bobby Berk Home (New York/Online): This modern design shop in Soho (and on the web) has a good selection of cool clocks, including the Sonoro Cubo AM/FM clock radio ($350).
  6. IKEA (Various Locations/Online): For a basic modern alarm clock on the cheap, IKEA is always worth a look. We like the all-white Nojs Alarm Clock ($13).
  7. Dijital Fix (Brooklyn/Online) This store specializes in "design+electronics." Our favorite is the Braun Clock AB1 ($35). Designed by Dieter Rams in 1971, it still looks fresh.
  8. The Conran Shop (New York/Online): They carry a good selection of modern clocks, including hard-to-find Karlsson Clocks from the Netherlands. We like the Mini Quad Chrome Alarm Clock ($90).
  9. Dutch by Design (UK/Online): This UK-based design shop has big selection of funky clocks, ships internationally and (depending on the exchange rate and shipping costs) has affordably priced items. Check out the Back in Time Radio/Alarm Clock (€29.50).
  10. Bed, Bath & Beyond: Most of their alarm clocks are sort of bulky, but you can find good ones as well, like the iHome Alarm Clock/iPod Speaker ($50).
