Q: I have been searching high and low for the perfect curtains. I know exactly what they look like, but I can't seem to track them down. Designer Tyler Dawson used a beautiful set in her 7x7 Designers' Challenge in April 2009. I am in love with them, but I have no idea who made them and how much they cost.
I (of course) have a limited budget and can't afford something too extravagant; however, I have a lot of experience sewing and feel confident I could make them if I had the right fabric. Can anyone help me? Please?

Editor: Can anyone identify the curtains or suggest a similar fabric for Evelyn? Source suggestions are welcome - thanks!

Howard Butcher Bloc...
It looks like Schumacher Tiraz Cotton Ikat in Rouge.

Good luck!
Wow, if that isn't it, it is pretty close!
The look like the same Lee Jofa fabric in this post (scroll down, it's blue): http://urbangraceinteriors.typepad.com/the_blog/2008/12/cafe-curtains-method-to-my-madness.html
Not sure how budget friendly that fabric will be...
Here it is!

Yeah, it's $137 a yard... Gorgeous, though!
How much fabric do you need... Digital printing on fabric is not as far fetched as it was some years ago.... If it is within your grasp... you can try and have that as a very possible option....
Maybe you can go that route and have exactly what you desire.
Good luck if you're going to sew them yourself! Oh and the perfect curtains don't sweep the floor, but reach almost floor level.
Calico Corners online has something similar for $24/yd.

Calico Corners is a pretty budget-friendly place to buy fabrics, I agree. Also, if you want to go custom, you can order fabric from Spoonflower.com - you have to provide them with the graphics you want, though, although they do have a HUGE selection of fabrics you can choose from, everything from the beautiful to the beastly. You might also try halfpricedrapes.com - you can order swatches of their fabrics before you order the curtains (some of their curtain styles aren't returnable, so I'd do the swatches).
Ballard Designs also might have curtains similar in style and color to these, through their custom order shop, which could run you up to about $300 per panel.
Good luck!
Thanks to everyone so far. It breaks my little heart that the ideal fabric is so expensive. Do you guys think that the Kalah Spice would be a good replacement? I also found a fabric at Joann Fabrics that is not an Ikat, but has similar colors.
What do you think?
Wow, you guys are AMAZING! A look-alike and the EXACT match in 4 posts and 25 minutes! It's kind of scary! ;^)
The Kalah Spice is definitely the nicer fabric, if the original is out of reach.
Have a look at

They have loads of heavenly fabrics; if you can't find something there, then you are beyond help ;-)
i actually PREFER the Kalah Spice to the original fabric you were swooning over.
i've been looking for fabric in a similar print to 'spice' up my living room.
thanks for the post!
Take a look at these too-

Thanks, Evelyn, for the confidence booster! As kellylj pointed out, the fabric is by Suzanne Rheinstein for Lee Jofa. When I ordered it last February the cost was $88/yd (trade pricing), but I called today and it is now $98/yd. For the record, I think the Kalah Spice is a great substitute. If I can help with anything else, please feel free to email me at tyler@tylerdawsondesign.com. My best, Tyler
I love the curtains and the design.
I agree that the Kalah spice would make a great substitute.

Here's a fun option for only $20/yard from fabricadabra!

Tonic living does custom sewing. 20x20 pillow covers are only $20 so my guess is that their curtains would be very affordable as well.
