Whether you're renovating your kitchen or simply switching out appliances, there are a lot more options out there than the ubiquitous stainless steel. Retro and vintage appliances can give a kitchen a fun new (or should I say old?) attitude. Check out these suppliers for vintage and retro (but new) appliances…
Of course, buying a stylish vintage or retro inspired appliance is going to cost a bit more than your standard new Maytag. If you feel like it's worth the extra dough to make a fashion statement with your appliances, you'll want to check out these stores.
NEW
• Big Chill makes new energy efficient appliances with a retro look. Available in an assortment of fun colors, from the light blue refrigerator in the first image above, to the orange dishwasher and even a blush-y pink model.
• Elmira Stove Works, a company that has been crafting vintage-styled appliances since 1975, offers this 1950 Mint Green Northstar Refrigerator in a number of retro colors.
• Elmira Stove Works also stocks North Star retro ranges – in gas and electric. Shown here is the eye catching 1954 Candy Red Northstar Electric Range. The stoves are offered in 8 more colors, and you can also request a custom hue.
VINTAGE
• Savon Appliance in Burbank, California sells restored vintage stoves. This green and white late 1940's O'Keefe & Merritt has been re-porcelined and re-chromed.
• AntiqueAppliances.com is a great source for online shoppers. They offer restored vintage appliances, like this blue 1956 Philco Combination refrigerator/freezer, and they ship anywhere in the USA.
• Dream Stoves specializes in fully restored vintage ranges from the 1920s through 1950s. All stoves are disassembled, repaired and then reassembled. In the end, they look almost new.

Nomade Express Slee...
Oh dear. The fridge comes in red. I'm in love!! And need to win the lottery.
I love Big Chill-- if only I had the cash lying around for their stuff! :-(
The people at Savon are really wonderful!!! It is family owned, and besides restoring vintage machines, they also do an amazing job repairing older but not as cute washers and dryers. They really love and appreciate well-made machines. Fixing an old one can be at least as green as the fancy-pants new washers out there, especially if you mostly use cold water. They are really great people, and no I don't work there!
I found 26 places for true-vintage, and my readers added even more: http://retrorenovation.com/2011/11/04/13-places-to-buy-restored-vintage-stoves/
Can't believe the smeg fridge wasn't listed here.
Okay, now I know where to go when I set up my new digs. Thanks for posting great sources for vintage AND energy-efficient appliances. You're awesome! :D
I need to say that Sav-on Appliance is AMAZING!!! I just bought a double oven, double broiler later 1940's Wedgewood stove from there. It's being delivered on Thursday. Marsha is so amazingly nice, as her daughter Chanavi. I couldn't have had a better buying experience. If you're thinking of buying a vintage stove and live in LA, you HAVE to go to Sav-on Appliance.
Love the blue fridge but hate that it opens on the wrong side!
Just what we need! :)
Yes @ACEYX - Smeg, and also Aga's cookers.

I bought a Beach Blue Big Chill fridge a couple years ago, once I knew my job was safe. It's a huge hit with everyone who comes to the house, friends or otherwise. I'm so glad I spent the money on it! I LOVE IT!
@ LEEPERT - you can select which side you want the door to open. Mine opens from the other side than the one pictured.
Ha! I have that EXACT stove. When I did my kitchen reno last year, I insisted they work a plan around it. It was my gramma's stove and I have many fond memories wrapped up in that fabulous Tappan. Works like a champ too, fyi
