It's getting colder, so we've been craving hot comfort food. The best way to achieve those comfort foods — with the slow cooker! We received one as a gift from my fiancé's mother and we actually didn't use it for a while. But lately, my fiancé has taken it upon himself to become the slow cooking king. Now, there's another cooking method he can easily master with the slow cooker.
Cooking with a slow cooker is like cooking for dummies. There's not really much you can screw up (but don't tell my fiance that, he really thinks he's a chef now). A method that will really go to his head — hacking our slow cooker into a sous vide.
Jeff Potter, author of Cooking for Geeks made a very insightful and interesting video about how to hack your slow cooker into a sous vide. He explains that by hacking it you can better control the temperature that the slow cooker reaches. He demonstrates by cooking absolutely perfectly poached eggs.
Here's what you'll need:
• Thermostatic control, $70.00
• Thermocouple, $17.49
• Extension cord, $10.00 (or less)
• Slow Cooker, $24.99
That $122.48 is a lot cheaper than the average sous vide machine on the market for $449!
