What is the advantage of SMALL? Living small is about clarity. Seriously, I try not to think of the $$$ I could have saved over the years in therapy, yoga AND rent had I figured this out sooner.

The first step to *really* living small was pairing down. And the more I could define what was important to me, the less I had to concern myself with. At the end of the day, as Dorothy Parker would put it "...all I need is room enough to lay a hat and a few friends."

What's your favorite resource for your home?

I've had great luck with having things custom made to my specifications by local craftspeople - at prices that put the fancier big box stores to shame. And I'll admit it - I have a big crush on craigslist.

What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home?

That it fits me like a glove. I spend 18 hours a day (and sometimes more) working, cooking, sleeping, entertaining and generally existing in this space and my home is designed to facilitate all those tasks with a little charm, ingenuity and room to spare.

It might not be the right combination of form and function for anyone of the other billions of people on the planet, but for me it purrs like a well-oiled machine.
