Cool... Though I'd be a little weirded out having everything out in the open like that in my own house, I still like it. I'm not liking your kitchen cabinets though.

While I am way too attached to all of my "stuff" to ever adopt a sparse style like this - I really admire your place. It's beautiful.

My only question is - do you always have four shirts and three pairs of pants in coordinating colors hanging in the closet??? ;-)

Besides seeming like a very comfy & calming place to live, I like that there's not the usual roll call of MCM pieces. Instead you took a "normal" person's budget and still made your place look like a show home. Super cool from me!

I'd flip the couch to face the windows and act as a divider for from the kitchen...that way you're not looking at a wall, bed, and kitchen. Maybe also use fabric to divide the bed area from the desk but...otherwises, I like the use of the space.

Nice look and color scheme. However, it seems there's a lot of space not being fully used. With that much space I personally would prefer a divider or wall to provide more privacy to the bed area. (Though I recognize that's sort of the point of the loft style.) Cool.

Seriously, I like this. It's funny, because I usually really prefer multi-function Miss Marple things that become other things, but this is just a very straight-forward version of functional done in an attractive, very simple neutral color scheme.

The light in this space is amazing. But it is SERIOUSLY sparse and disconnected. That's why the shots are so tight/cropped. The zoom-outs would reveal the emptiness. That kitchen shot doesn't get you any extra points either. It would be nice to get your floors involved in the dialogue of your apartment (not to mention is would warm cold tootsies). Adressing the large blank white walls would help too, and well as am electic cofee table that borrows from your wood theme. Some large hanging lights would help break things up too.

I think that you have used your "color" palette to unify the space and to make it look larger than it is. It's a bit sparse for my tastes, but it's a successful example of what it is (if that makes sense).

The driftwood is a nice organic touch that brings warmth into an otherwise linear space. Good job!

Hi, it's David here. Just a few notes on the kind comments I have read: Regarding the kitchen, I too despise the cabinetry. Just one of those things you are forced to deal with while renting. I know that there is nothing incredibly noteworthy about the kitchen but it has been made pretty clear on other posts that if there is no kitchen or bathroom shot, the world will end! The closet is also an issue in a place like this, as there is no allocated space specifically for storage. In the photo you are only able to see the very end of a shelving system with 2 rods that run halfway down that wall. Next to that there is an armoire with room to hang jackets and shelves for shoes. The couch is positioned in that direction because from that vantage, the skyline view is directly in your line of sight, I have tried with it facing the wall and it just feels weird. As far as sparseness, I am sitting back and taking this is a compliment, you can trust me that with much more, this type of open space looks absolutely cluttered. It is hard to capture the flow of the space in these photos, the tight shots are not a trick to distract from any kind of emptiness (there is never enough), rather, a way to show how I've attempted to subdivide an open space, and still keep it feeling airy (if this makes sense). I really appreciate the feedback, the flow of ideas is really fun, and thanks for any good votes! It is nice to know that it is possible to appreciate a space and embrace style without spending thousands on furniture and strict themes.

PS - With these windows, no kitty is probably a good idea.

Wonderful light! Clean and crisp! The floors and wall color add a nice warmth. Looks very inviting. A small space that seems very large. Very Cool!

Looooooooove ... I would probably cram it full of crap, but you did a great job of paring down. A few more pops of color (an area rug ... few more accessories) would make it even better, but I adore the open feeling here.

I adore this. This is sort of a different approach to the contest, as it isn't a "cramp it in tricky ways" sort of layout, it is small, but well layed out and simple. The architectural element to the furniture and simple pieces really lets the space breathe.

To Erin K. I know Mid Century pieces pop up a lot - for good reason: they work. Here I agree with DesignGod about the sparseness of this place. Now I'm not saying that MCM is the end-all style, but if David had a couple of strong pieces they would carry some of the emptiness. By having such open space with such unremarkable pieces the space feels too open and disconnected.

Some examples where this place is really strong: the unusualness of the vintage easel creates a neat resting place for the eye. Even simple things like the white trashcan are unusual enough to be strong.

I think the longer they live at this place the more unique pieces they will find. I'd keep my eyes open for a nice Scandinavian style armchair to replace the poang chair, and possibly a low coffee table to anchor the livingroom space.
