We love how books serve as portals to other worlds, so what better place to create an alluring reading nook for kids than an actual portal between two rooms.

These cozy, futuristic ducts are the residential work of London architecture firm, Michaelis Boyd Associates. I'm not only keen on the sheltered look of these reading nooks, but also love the way the playful design breaks up the tension between a shared space. My only concern is whether or not I could cram myself into one.

Shaw's Original Fir...
I agree with the writer..can an adult cram themselves in one? I would think this would be cozy.
This is just too cool!
wow - that is amazing
Very groovy!
Cool, but I'd like to see them in adult sizes. These both look like they're for kids rooms, so for an adult to use it without feeling cramped and horrible, it would have to be wwway bigger than the ones shown. It would probably still look cool, but it would likely start seeming less like a tube and more like the whole wall is just gone.
My dad built my older brothers something similar for their room back in the 70's. It was a room divider but rather than a circle it had a square. They never used it for reading though, it was far more fun to hurl things at each other from their beds (generally dirty socks) through the opening! Both grew up to be excellent shots.
