Design: Rotator Rod - The Space Saving Shower Rod
Materials: Stainless steel rod, Chrome or Brushed Nickel Plating, Molded Plastic/Nylon
Designer: Colleen O'Connell
"Small bathrooms just got bigger! They say necessity is the mother of invention and this was true for the Rotator Rod. When I downsized and found myself wrestling with the shower curtain every morning, so I installed a curved shower curtain rod, like the ones I had seen hotels."

"It worked great and my shower space felt bigger and brighter! BUT, the curve came out so far that it cramped the rest of the bathroom. So I set out to solve the problem - with Gatorade caps nailed to the wall and using lots of glue and wire, I created one that would move out of the way when it wasn’t in use. The first Rotator Rod was born. It’s come a long way since then, but now, anyone can expand space in or out of the shower with a simple ‘flip’ of the rod – no glue required. Oh, and this may be the best part – now, when wet towels or bathing suits are hung over the shower rod, they drip into the tub, and not on the floor.
I have more/different pics of the rod and of me, if necessary."

Smart and simple.
I love the idea but I think $65+ is a bit much.
I understand the added space while showering, but the inverse makes no sense, as one can simply open the shower curtain if they need more space while outside of the shower.
Talktoearthworms makes a good point. Though the inverse does position wet towels or clothes over the tub if you use your shower rod as a drying rack. That would be a rare occurrence for me, but some may find that useful. Also, a lot of people keep their shower curtain closed when guests come over, so this would allow users to do that without hogging to much bathroom space.
I think it's brilliant!
As for being able to simply open the curtain to increase the room, that may not work for all people. My husband and I visited friends a couple months ago who had a curved rod in their very small bathroom, and my husband found that he had trouble standing in front of the toilet because his head was at the same level as the curved rod (which stuck out over toilet from the side due to the very cramped bathroom). This rod would have prevent that issue.
opening the curtain means that the shower doesn't dry as well
plus, sometimes it's nice to not show the clutter of shampoo bottles and everything else that is in the shower!
agree that 65 is a bit much for such an invention though.
It's a clever improvement to an already existing product. But how does it really look when it's pushed in over the tub? Does the curtain hang weird? That'd be my main concern.
That's what we're talking about! Something that addresses a need that exists, is uncomplicated and easy to use, and doesn't add a lot of expensive bells and whistles. I'd get one.
I think this is a great idea! I especially like being able to rotate the rod into the tub to let wet clothes/bathing suites drip dry into the tub.
The difference in space is incredible! I can't believe it has taken til now for someone to think of this! I show the one I have to everyone who is at my house. Wonderful!!
I love it - especially right after you get out of the shower. Keeping the curtain closed over like that helps it dry, keeps it from getting moldified. I am completely behind this idea.
I've had a rod like this for 6 years. I do love the additional feeling of space in the shower/tub that it give.
What a great idea! Simple but totally useful.
$60+ to push the curtain a few inches off? NY maybe, the rest of the world... prob, not. Also, kinda sad that "Beautiful" made an obvious reverse-troll comment. lol Boo!
zero stars
$60 isn't that much considering a standard curved rod runs $35-$40 in your big-box stores.
I think it's brilliant - I'm ordering one!
First thing I did when moving into my current place was replace the straight rod with a curved one. (a much cheaper, non swivel version) I need extra elbow room to deal with my long hair.
Not quite understanding why you would need to turn the rod the other way, I just leave the curtain open if I feel I need more space in the rest of the bathroom.
I love this- I have a small bathroom and a curved rod as well and it sticks out over the toilet just a little bit. For anyone who doesn't have a super small bathroom the rotation seems silly but for me, it's brilliant!
this rod is not only great looking it is also a must have in any small bathroom with size issuses. Great new product.
@ MRSkeller, I was wondering that too. Maybe you have to use full circular rings for the curtain so it can swing back into a normal position.
I love my new rotator rod. It is the most convinient new purchace I ever had. It gives me so much room in my tub and does not take room from my small bathroom, when the rod is rotated rod is turned.
Wow, so many fake commenters here:

You're all so full of it.
I stayed in a hotel that had a shower curtain rod contraption like this and I thought it was so great! It really did add extra space when showering. It was nice to have more room to move my arms when I was shampooing. It simply gives you more room to breathe and I would recommend it to anyone :)
My shower curtain rod is already shaped for the "roomier shower space" It can turn to the other one as well, but it's not worth my time and effort to do so.
& I agrre with Gordon, especailly when you see these accounts were just made today.
Nice catch, gordon! :)
@Gordon You're right, there are a lot of comments from people who just registered today to make a comment about the amazing and beautiful rotator rod.
I still kind of want one though. I keep the curtain in my little bathroom closed because the tile is so ugly. I'd rather the bathroom seem small rather than ugly.
I think this is a very clever and useful invention (and this is not a fake post). My large boyfriend loves the curved-out rods. But if we got one, the curtain would pretty much drape over the toilet. This is the perfect solution! I also love that it would work as a drying rack and help keep the end of the curtain from getting slimy.
$65 is a bit steep, but not when normal curved rods are $45. I just hope it's made well! My only wish is that the joints weren't black or white but matched the rest of the bar.
My only concern would be in the design...I assume there are stops so the rod doesn't eventually sag and hang down (pivoting downward in the housing at each end)?
My husband and I have been looking at getting a curved rod but when I saw this the light bulb just went off!
I am less than ecstatic about the idea of my shower curtain getting even closer to my toilet. (Why, oh why, do architects always put toilets right next to the bathtub?! Clearly, these houses are designed by people who never take bubble baths.)
And, being from Florida, I always leave my shower curtain fully extended because otherwise it's a breeding ground for mildew.
I am not jumping for joy over the price but the idea of all those romantic, er, roomier showers I'll be having with my hubby has me reconsidering.
I love it. So simple and perfect. I can have roomier showers and not feel claustrophobic while in my bathroom with the shower curtain closed.
I don't think this is a new invention, I already have one.
We rent, and our tub and the tiles in it are very ugly. When people come over, we definitely do not want to have the shower curtain open, so this rob is a great solution!
Even if you don't mind keeping the shower curtain open, I think it would just be nice to have the option of reversing it :)
Genius for small spaces! "Why didn't *I* think of that?"
My space is roomy and I have a shower stall with a door, but I'm enchanted with the idea of swinging this in to hang up hand wash for drying. Now I need to come up with an equivalent for my shower stall!
Once these things start selling more, the price will drop and we'll be able to buy'em for 20$ or less. Great idea!
This is the best idea sents sliced bread,15 minutes to put up and a warranty to boot. Every home over 25yrs. old needs this.
I love this idea! I have rental properties with small bathrooms where this would be perfect!
Way cool!!!
I own a Rotator Rod. There is not one person who has come to my home and seen it that has not asked where they can get one. I guess that is why I saw it on Home Shopping Network. We all know HSN does not just sell anything. Their standards are pretty strict. Don't be a hater Gordon...these are def not fabricated comments. It's just an amazing product that people love. I agree with SherrybinH....why the heck didn't I think of this!!!
It's nice looking, not flimsy, and solves a multitude of "bathroom issues"... what's not to love????
It's obviously one-upped all other curved rods.
I think it's a fabulous idea! When in an apartment, the shower isn't always the prettiest of places, plus, if your shower curtain is left open all the time, it begins to grow mold. Inverting the cutrain will help to hide all those unnessary sights and to keep your bathroom, and your whole house healthier! Way to go!
The designer asking friends and family to vote doesn't mean the profiles are "fake". It means they're brand new and they signed up to support their friend. Big deal! What's with the profile Nazis? Get a grip people.
I think it's an awesome idea. I have a tiny bathroom and I always keep my shower curtain closed - it dries better and it hides all the crap I have in my shower. This would certainly open up the space.
Is a manufactured "as seen on TV" item really what this contest is for? I feel like "handcrafted" may need to be a requirement for future design showcases...
(Not a fake post)
I actually think this is a very smart idea. I have experienced the added room while at hotels and thought it was quite nice. I also have very limited space in my bathroom and it would be great to just flip it when I am out of the shower. The price doesn't seem absurd if it is of good quality and will last for years (It would need to last a long time as my current shower rod is original from 1930).
That said, I have a very vintagy bathroom with mostly all original fixtures from 1930 right down to the four porcelain knobs on my shower/tub. A curved rod would just look very funny in such a vintage space.
Colleen O'Connell is to be congratulated.
This post officially has the most comments from people who just registered and have only written one comment.
I don't get it - HSN sells this - even the name is identical.

asinner- Yes HSN sells this, but if you had a brain you would have also noticed that it's Colleen's rod that they sell. The people that don't like this are most likely jealous that they didn't think of this. The idea is simple and that's it's brilliance. I know I'm a little jealous.
All I had to do was look at how this rod worked and knew I had to have one for my narrow bathroom. I installed it with no difficulty at all, and it now gives me additional room next to my commode when the rod isn't in use. The design and look are both extraordinarily nice. My wife loves it as well. I would suggest if those whose shower curtain in too close to the toilet to merely slide the curtain to the end away from the commode. I think also that the device to move the rod back and forth is very clever. By the way, Amazon.com sells Ms. Colleen's rod too. It's just another way to market a very creative product. Everyone who sees this rod is impressed with its design. I even had a contractor tell me he was going to use it when he ran across a bathroom remodeling job that was narrower than normal. He said it would make him look like a genius. I love this rod and its owner-designer is to be commended for its flexibility.
First off, I have one and I can't tell you how much I wish I had one for my first apartment! We had the smallest bathrooms and showers.
Second, yes- HSN is selling her product!....
Third, for all that think there are so many fake posts by the designer... this is a brand new product.... I would just assume she has enough on her plate and very little time as it is.
First of all, this is an awesome product. I do not know the designer, but I would imagine that those of you who are monitoring the "fake posts" are very confused. The posts are not fake if you are reading them! Secondly, for those of you complaining about "friends and family" posting too much, you are obviously just jealous that you don't have as many friends and family as this inventor.
Third, quit hating and appreciate the great minds that invent this stuff...it's all there to make your lives easier!
Too much bickering...comments should relate to the product.
I got my Rotator Rod on HSN and do find that I have much more space in the shower. I didnt have any problems with my original rod, but why not upgrade? My shower is right next to my toilet so a regular curved shower rod wouldnt fit. I saw this and decided to try it. Glad I did!
What a wonderful idea! This is perfect for small spaces!!
A great product? Yes. A great design? No.
This is a design competition and this product, while efficient, is simply a product. Design is beautiful, it's art, it's expression. This is a space saving gimmick that while useful is certainly not art.
I am profoundly disappointed by the response this has received.
Wow lurso, are you 12? What a strange and immature response. Don't think we're "jealous" of the inventor, just wondering why she would think all these comments would improve her sales/reputation. I personally find this sort of support quite unappealing.
As for this rod, I recently remodeled my house and added a new bathroom where one did not exist and it's a bit of a strange shape. The door jam is FLUSH against the side of the tub, so if I have a shower curtain closed, it will get caught in the door. The concept of this rotating rod appeals to me because it would take a lot of the bulk of a curtain away from the door, but like others, I wonder how the curtain would hang and look when the rod is rotated.
Like others who read AT, I don't care just about convenience, but about style. If this looked like crap in my bathroom, $6 or $60 I would not purchase.
The concept is good. The push to pad the comments is not.
Totally agree with jennyd : " A great product? Yes. A great design? No.

THIS IS A DESIGN COMPETITION PEOPLE! PLEASE DON'T GIVE YOUR VOTE TO THIS...IS NOT DESIGN!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ jennyd and alextrent- Anything man has ever made is design. Every 'product' on the market was 'designed' by someone. You are confusing this with an art competition. You should read some of the comments above as well because this DESIGN not only solves a problem many people reviewers have in terms of the function of their space but it also solves an aesthetic problem making this a beautiful design.
sure, this is fundamentally a "design" but I am surprised on how much attention it's garnering on this stage. it's merely a clever piece of hardware. functional yes, though i see nothing unique or attractive in the appearance, crafstmanship or otherwise. one of the judges mentions his favorite chair that is impossible to make a good cheap imitation... this rod already looks like cheap imitation.
I absolutely love it!!! It makes my small guest bath look so elegant, as well as being so functional. Hats off to your wonderful product. I am going to buy for Christmas gifts as my 2 sons just moved to small spaces.
