Q: I'm searching for the best space-saving bath tub for my four-month-old daughter, who is quickly outgrowing her mesh bath sling. We live in a 700 square foot apartment with limited storage space and want to avoid anything too bulky. Any suggestions are most appreciated. Thanks so much!

Editor: Many parents seem to like the Flexibath (pictured). You might also want to check out this reader survey on bathing your baby. Personally, I stopped using an infant tub after a few weeks and just bathed my son in the regular tub with one hand under his head. Readers, what other suggestions do you have for Pru?

White Enamel Flatwa...
We like this one http://www.amazon.com/Safety-1st-Space-Saver-Fold/dp/B000A32PNW Very secure.
Kitchen sink.
We have the flexibath that our 38"tall toddler uses, he loves it and so do we. It is also very practical we pack it every time we travel. I highly recommend it.
I second jenmaselli's suggestion. I've been bathing my now 10-month old in the kitchen sink since he was able to sit up unassisted. Just put a hand towel in the bottom to make it less slippery.
I've also found that the easiest way to bathe him is to set him down in the tub while I shower.
I looove the flexi bath. It uses way less water than filling an entire tub for a baby and packs away super small. Before my daughter could sit on her own, I used a bath sling in the flexi. Fantastic!
We showered with our son until he was 6 months old and after that we used a bathmat in the bathtub. Not worth the extra cost for another tub that will only get used until the kid can sit up. I have a friend who put her baby in the Bumbo in the tub if that's more your style.
We had the Safety 1st tub that was mentioned, but while it's smaller than a regular baby tub, it doesn't fold flat like some (i.e. Puj...wish they'd had that 4 years ago!). I wish I'd had something different. And maybe it was just the freaked out first-time parents we were, but we couldn't handle showering with a slippery, floppy newborn.
Because our first child took forever to sit up, I'm intrigued by the upright tubs like the washPOD...has anyone tried them? They don't fold but could be filled with bath toys and baby soap, etc. under the sink.
once my daughter was sitting up on her own, my husband or i took baths with her. that actually became a bad habit because she refused to get in the tub alone! we only used a kids bath until she was maybe 4 months old.
AmberM--I hated the washPod. It was a pain to haul out, was always a storage nightmare (too big to tuck out of the way, always getting stuff piled in it/on it, tripping hazard)
I used the kitchen sink at first, then the regular bath tub with one of those cheap foam mats (replace for $5 when it gets gross). I also would shower with him (easiest of all!).
If I did it over again, I'd do the same with the minor addition of a waterproof sling (that I'd use at the pool as well...)
We LOVED our Puj, and our daughter didn't out-grow hers until she was 6 months (though she was on the small side). After that we just bathed her in the bath tub.
we had a baby bath, but our son hated it... hated bath time, until we brought him in the shower with us when he was 2 months old... he's 16 months now and still showers with us. Shower first, and as we're showering we fill the bath, and then he can splash in the water...
We did the Safety 1st folding tub with our son, but just stuck with the kitchen sink with our second. She bathed in the sink until she was almost 3.
These are all great suggestions. I'm leaning toward the Flexibath, simply because she can grow into it and it seems like a nice transition until we use only a bathmat. Plus, it's foldable.
Personally, I feel uncomfortable holding her in the shower. Too slippery. And the kitchen sink seems unsanitary. Maybe I'm wrong.
Thanks again for the feedback.
I think it depends on how early your child sits up. Mine was by 6 months, so she is in the regular bath now, usually with her sister. Before this, when I wasn't using the little chair in the tub (we had a Summer Infant folding mesh chair), I did the bathroom sink. You don't need much water to get them clean, really. :) But, you can always just get some sort of plastic bin from Target or something, then use it for toy storage after, as they don't need this for long because they sit up fairly soon.
Puj tub. Hands down. We have a small house and 3 week old twins. It goes right in the sink to support them and is not cold. Awesome. And I think it was less than $40.
Kitchen sink, or just hold them in the shower. One parent gets in and washes themselves with the other gets baby undressed and hands them in.
Kitchen sink since she outgrew her baby pod! Until yesterday, at 17 months. :)
We have a Flexibath and used that until our son was 7 months old. We only stopped using it because he started swimming lessons and learnt how much fun it was to kick water everywhere.
Since transitioning him to the big bathtub, we have used the Flexibath for outdoor water play in summer and I'm about to unpack it for toy storage. We love it!
a bath ring. it is the perfect step up from the bath sling. once baby can hold their head up and can sit with assistance, the bath ring sits in a bathtub (or shower) with suction cups to keep it stationary. baby is happy and upright and it is WAY smaller than a baby bathtub which she will outgrow soon enough.
Has anyone just used a regular bucket in the bath like a Tubtrug? http://us.tubtrugs.com/ It seems like it would accomplish all the same things (use less water, be easier to keep the baby sitting up) and could be used for toy storage later. (baby due next week)
Just noticed the note about using a Bumbo. They actually float in water, so if your child isn't heavy enough or they shift the wrong way, they can flip over. Unless you figure out a way to suction it to the tub, I wouldn't recommend using one in the bath!
