We'll be honest. We're a sucker for a set of well-designed speakers. We're also a bit obsessed with sneakers. But what happens when you push the limits by combining both? We never thought it was possible, but the boys at Art & Sole have proven that it doesn't take much but a little bit of ingenuity and effort to build one of the nuttiest mutant technology items that merge fashion with hi-fi.
The artist who created the shoe-speaker was Alex Nash (aka NashMoney). Commissioned by the Inspired Ingenuity project, he set out to build out an idea that had been sitting in his journal for about three years.
When asked about his choice in shoe, the Nike Air Force 1, he answered:
"The outsole was one of the main reasons as it has such a flat sole to sink the speaker cone level against. The fact that the Air Force 1 is probably one of the worlds most recognisable and iconic sneakers was a plus."
Iconic. Careful craftsmanship. And hopefully the sound isn't bad either (there's a tweeter crammed in there somehow). We feel this project is a huge success! Now, if we can possibly get one send to our Unplggd offices...
Be sure to check out the photographic walkthrough of their DIY building process over at Art & Sole.
