Q: Any suggestions from those of you that have done it... what kind of tree branch is a good one to hang in a room? One that won't get too brittle and start falling apart.

Shaw's Original Fir...
Top of my head (from trees around me) I'd think a crepe myrtle or birch type tree would be nice. Smooth textured wood and sturdy.
I know lots of people like poplar for decorations too.
I think birch branches get brittle & punky over time, even though they look nice. In the northeast, hophornbeam (ironwood) holds its strength for sure, but it's harder to identify. Anything used in basketry would be a safe bet - like willow.
