Tis the season for DIY projects! Now that the weather is warming up, it's time to break out your arsenal of spray paints, sanders and wood glue and get to work. I scoured the Apartment Therapy Marketplace for fixer uppers under $300. These listings require some work but nothing you can't accomplish over the weekend. Take a look and share your thoughts on what should be done with them.
Splurge: Live Edge Wood Slab
If you're going to make an extravagant purchase, do it on a live edge wood slab. These wood slices bring some real character to a space. Undoubtedly unique, these wood slabs can be used as as stump coffee tables. I recommend getting a custom piece of glass or acrylic cut to place on top. You'll have a smoother surface to use and the only rings you'll see are the ones naturally made. Another cool idea would be to add some gold foil or resin in the nooks and cracks for an eye-catching finish. Available on Apartment Therapy Marketplace, $100.
Take a better look at this Art Deco tubular chair before you scroll on. It's one heck of a deal. Made of steel, the bones of this piece give it a striking silhouette. It does need work; both a good steel wool pad to revive the frame and some basic upholstery skills for the seat. It's nothing you can't do with the help of a few YouTube videos. Take a chance and get creative with your upholstery, use a wool blanket or an embroidered tablecloth. Available on Apartment Therapy Marketplace, $50.
Steal: Thomasville Campaign Buffet
This Thomasville campaign buffet is a treasure if I ever saw one. A solid piece with plenty of storage, 9 drawers in total. However, the magic is in the details here with brass pulls, corner brass plates and dovetailed drawers. It does need a little restoration work due to nicks and scratches in the burled wood finish. Use it as it is, buff out the flaws or give a fresh coat of paint. Available on Apartment Therapy Marketplace, $280.
