You probably already know that the right lighting can make all the difference in a room, but you can also use lighting outside your home to get a spooky effect for the holidays. Don't know where to start? No problem. Here are a bunch of great ideas for geting into a ghoulish spirit for Halloween.
Decor and renovations site House Logic put together a roundup of tips for lighting up your Halloween display for trick-or-treaters. They include strategies like using up-lighting to give a great campfire effect to your spooky decorations, and using CFLs and LEDs to cut down the costs of operating your holiday lighting scheme.

But our favorite tip is an easy one: Go overboard inside your home with lights in a single color, green in this case, to give your whole place a nightmare-like glow.

And here's another example from Lisa of Soak It All In, who used red-orange lights to transform the cozy porch into something more sinister.

I like these ideas. I'm hoping to use a similar lighting effect and hopefully not use a fog machine this year. The fog looks great, but people don't like breathing it in.
Can I tell you how impossible it is to find a simple orange light bulb in our neck of the woods? Strands of light, etc no problem. Just a simple orange light bulb. Last year I made the mistake of using a black light in our porch light and it was darker than hell. I love these lights! When in doubt lots of candles (battery operated if you're worried about safety) also does a house a lot of justice.
