My first love is interior design, but fashion is a close second. Not that I consider myself the most fashionable person (most of my paycheck goes toward home updates) but I appreciate good, smart design in general.
Last week, I was drooling over the spring reports at Elle.com and Vogue.com. These modern pieces feel fresh for today while giving a nod to the classics (florals, stripes, checks) — something I always aspire to in my home. Here's a look at some of those trends and the rooms that get it right.
1. Florals. For me, anything goes with these patterns, from wallpaper to pillows to rugs to art. But I like this twist of a wall hanging as art piece/headboard from Stacy and John’s House Tour. Admiring the Paul & Joe spring runway shows, this traditional idea is right on trend.
2. Stripes. These lines, classic and modern at the same time, freshen up a home from winter to spring instantly. This elegant room from HousetoHome.com uses thin stripes on an accent wall and area rug and feels just as sleek and sharp as this Sportmax runway piece.
3. Checkerboard. Checks have been creeping back into fashion and home, and designers Sportmax, Louis Vuitton, and Alexandre Herchcovitch take a bolder step by suggesting a checkerboard print, just as Matt and Andy do in their retro-modern kitchen.
What do you think? Do you/would you gravitate toward any of these classic trends in your home?
