Yay Philadelphia boards! I'm moving to Mt. Airy neighborhood (more or less) and I'm looking for info on all the cool stores, shops, food, salvage, thrift, other places I can get! Are there produce trucks parked on the street like west Philly? I'm moving into a BEAUTIFUL old studio in what appears to be a victorian parlor or sitting room, but it doesnt have a kitchen! Anyone ever had experience living in a place that didn't come with a kitchen, other than the awesome inspiration from that recent house tour where the guy built his own sink and walls and bedroom on wheels.
I'm excited about the Philly board as well. This is my first time doing the Cure and I can definitely use some local support. You can see what I've been doing in my apartment at

Any comments and suggestions are welcome (as long as they're not mean). I have a couple of real trouble spots like laminated orange walls in my kitchen and a faux-brick spot on my living room wall to address. Any ideas on how to handle these problems in a rental will win you extra brownie points.
so since we arent supposed to be using flickr pages this year where do we go on AT to see everyones pictures?

Hi Philly!
Good luck on the Spring Cure and keep one another going.
It's great to finally have a place for local voices. Please let us know how it works for you.
I'm a Spring Cure virgin and I'm looking forward to transforming my home and seeing how other local folks are progressing as well.
Aaron, that link takes me to an NYT article... am I missing something?
Ralph,
Have you checked out this site yet? http://www.phillyblog.com/
you can find out information about Mt. Airy, from people who live there. Also there is a great co-op in Mt. Airy too. Here is the link:

Ralph,
Besides Weaver's Way (which may or may not be right near your new place), there's a great little produce market at the corner Greene & Harvey. It looks like a dump from the outside, but it's got a lot of great stuff at really good prices. I get most of my produce there.
Ralph: ps. Agree with Suzy that Phillyblog has a very dedicated following. You'll get lots of answers to your questions from the group there. You may also find what you're looking for already posted in the forum too...
Hi, Philly
Does anyone have any suggestions for places in Center City that would buy books and CDs and videotapes I'm removing this week?
Thanks for any suggestions. My outbox is dying to get emptied out.
There is Mostly Books located at 529 Bainbridge St. I'm not sure if they will give you money for your books, but they would most likely give you store credit. Also, if you don't want to make money, and just want to get rid of everything, the Philly Freecycle website is great. It is part of Yahoo groups. Here is the website: http://www.phillyfreecycle.org/
I'm almost done with emptying my outbox! Yay! I decided to bring all my excess books and vhs tapes into my office. We have a bookshelf in our kitchen where everyone brings in music, books or videos to share. It makes me smile when I see many of my co-workers taking home a small pile of the books I brought in.
this will be my first comment on this sight, but i'm really excited about this. I'm currently renting a studio and i'm trying to find inexpensive ways to decorate.
*site...wrong spelling :)
