When I see decorated stairs we can't help but think about how dedicated the person that decorated them is. It really takes a lot to look at stairs and think that you'd love to spend the time painting them and sprucing them up so they are as beautiful as the rest of your home.
I certainly dream of the day that I can spruce up all the bits and pieces of my home when I'm finally a home owner. But for now, I'll just relish in the beauty of others hard work.
The fun part of decorating stairs is that there are so many different ways to do it. You can go super sleek and chic by painting them black (or just the tops black). Go ultra funky and paint a thick black stripe going up the center of the stairs or preppy with some stenciled patterns.
You might not have even been thinking of step-centric projects as an option; but you never know — you could really love the outcome.

The last one looks like an aparition in a spooky haunted house.
I like how the first picture has a bit of a trompe l'oeil effect - making the staircase seem longer and the corridor bigger.
I love the first pic! I wish I could do that in my home. Damn rentals...
Love the first one... the last one looks really weird and messy.
Love, Love, Love #4. I have already asked my husband whether he has any objection to my doing that on my stairs and am making plans.
I wish I could read the Elephants Can Fly blog
:(
The rulers are fabulous.
The last one looks kind of creepy, I think. The 4th one is beautiful! Inspired...
I really like the one with the rulers as well.
The elephants can fly blog - you can press translate this page if you have google chrome. but to sum up it is done using stencils from http://www.royaldesignstudio.com/ .... So awesome!
Here are some more embellished stairs:

1st one is my fave.
The rulers are very inspired. The last photo looks like a place where I'd be likely to break my neck.
Love the first one. The last one looks like it might have had a runner that was removed and no one bothered to paint in the centre section.
I agree it's creepy looking.
I like the first one best!! The last one looks like a plan turned into a mistake evolved into intention. Why are the bottom two steps brown? Considering this the view I would suggest hanging the pic frames more closely to the wall...Id knock every one them down.
RULERS!!!! I wonder if I could do that outside???
The last one looks like someone dragged a body up the stairs and didn't clean up afterward.
The rulers are sweet, and those Arabian patterned mustard ones are gorgeous. I only have 2 steps in my house but I'm inspired now.
I don't have steps, but I'm totally stealing that ruler idea for SOMETHING...
the yellow arab steps are awesome! But the last picture...scares me...creepy..haunted...i think i saw it move!
1st one is wonderful! I love the Keith Haring on the wall!
"The last one looks like someone dragged a body up the stairs and didn't clean up afterward."
My thoughts exactly.
I love the first two!
The last one IS in a dollhouse. Could the proportion have something to do with the overall impression that people are getting?
