We think it's fair to say that most people use washing machines — perhaps one that's water saving, solar-heated, or portable. Well, if you want to get a workout, take a look at the Squash Wash from Kristin Mueller, an industrial design student at the University of Illinois. It does all the washing by compression (from your hands and feet!) and "salad spinner" technology, and uses very little water and no electricity.
The graphs above pretty much explain how it works! It's made of high-density polyethylene and vinyl (yeah, not ideal) and is small enough to fit in any corner of your house.
What do you think? A viable alternative to regular washing machines?

I always told myself that next time I ended up living in an apartment with no washer or dryer I'd finally get a human-powered washer, like the Wonder Wash. That day hasn't come yet, and I'm enjoying my roommates low-water usage HE machine.
I do have to say that the Squash Wash does have one over the Wonder Wash in that I could use my feet! The downside to either of these washers for me is that I'm plus size, so I'm afraid I'd stick in one pair of jeans and that would pretty much be it. :D
Or you could use this http://bit.ly/aoFi3L and the kitchen sink.
The design is neat, but it's just something else to buy.
It could be neat if you had a cabin in the woods or, yes, as an emergency washer for people who hate dragging their laundry to the nearest laundromat and know they need their workout pants tomorrow. (This is me.)
I can attest from experience that the traditional washboards are MURDER on your hands if you're not used to them. Ow ow ow.
