Chicago was well represented on Small Space Big Style this week. The apartment of Svenska Mobler owner Andrew Wilder was featured, which brings together classic apartment architecture, the antique furnishings he loves, pumpkin walls and yoga.
You may remember the piece about Wilder in the Tribune magazine a while back; it was a treat to see a vintage East Lakeview apartment get the SSBS treatment.
What really impressed us about the decor: the scale of the furniture throughout is just right for the 700 square foot space.
The antiques are sized so well for apartment living (as well as being very attractive - not a surprise if you have ever visited his shop.)
Another interesting bit of design: Strong colors (walls/cabinets) are used throughout, moving from a goldish/green entry way through a blue living/dining room, past the red lacquer kitchen cabinets to the pumpkin bedroom and yellow media room. The intensity and clarity of the tones are similar, so it works. The overall feeling is cheerful and focused, not jarring.
The bathroom keeps its vintage fixtures but is updated through a patterned wallpaper (to disguise and smooth rough walls), a chandelier and again, bold color.
Our favorite bits: the windowseat/radiator cover/storage area, the formal entryway, the artwork throughout.
If you missed it, SSBS Episode 304 will be airing again this week: click here for the schedule.
