Yesterday, Sarah at AT:Chicago posted about placing mirrors horizontally as an easy way to increase the sense of space. It reminded us of a recent clipping we saved from the February 2008 issue of Instyle Magazine...
It was inspiration from the Hotel De Rome in Berlin. They stacked three full length mirrors horizontally above a desk. It makes a bold statement and is a great alternative to using one giant mirror. You can generally find inexpensive full length mirrors at most convenience stores, like Target or Kmart. Have any of you done this at home?

I love this idea. And you could do it very cheaply with those long mirrors you can buy at Wal-mart or Target to put on the back of a door.

i think you also need to be careful that the wall isn't too big or else it will end up looking dinky. i think this would be great for a reading room or small study, maybe even an entry way?
we did some mirror stacking at our entry way with three round mirrors - but we aren't fully decided on what we want to put below them - possibly a shorter plant stand.

I have 4 frameless beveled mirrors from IKEA sitting in my closet waiting for a final resting place. Want to do something like this in a dark corner of my apartment... just not quite sure how it's going to work out yet!

I love the look in the picture above. I think it looks good in that setting because the mirrors mimic the shape of the desk, which although isn't my style, I agree is fabulous. I am looking for a mirror for my dining room to reflect the light and open up the space. I thought about this option, but think that it could look odd on a larger wall. With this idea, scale is a huge aspect.

How can you hang these thin inexpensive mirrors? I am thinking these mirrors were intended to be hung with clips or tape - which would not work well in this application. The frames are too thin to attach a regular picture hanger -- any ideas? Wouldn't want to damage the wall.
We just finished this project. We stabilized the mirrors by staggering yard sticks taped to the back and then hung with eye screws and wire. So far so good. Total cost of project: $18.56 plus wire and screws. Yard sticks were free!. Looks fabulous reflecting the lamps and the other "stuff" on the dresser" underneath (used as a focal point in apartment living room).
WHERE CAN I GET THE DESK FOR THE LOVE OF FURNITURE????
