More Stacked Houses! This small Tokyo apartment building by Sou Fujimoto takes the shape of 5 small "houses" stacked on top of each other. Following my posts on Vitra Haus and the new Inntell Hotel in Zaandam, the Netherlands, it only seemed appropriate to follow the trend!
Exterior stairs (very popular in Tokyo dwellings) link the 5 apartments and each unit has a peaked roof and room for a sleeping loft. Bright, airy and a fun way to have a "house" in the urban center!

Form over Function.
I'd like these alot more if there weren't Z-Braces and columns blocking the windows...
(altho I know what they're there for)
...and fire-escapes everywhere.
Fun? It struck me as rather perverse - not in a good way.
Especially the one visible interior. It feels too confrontational for a home, too "in the way".
[and I don't know what is the beam across the window is for.
Trendy, contrived and gimmicky. Wasted space, too. Doesn't look very inviting, sorry to say. The Dutch version seemed to have more character and better use of space.
Looks like you could get run over by a car just stepping out the front door on the lower unit.
KatSD - except you'd be in Tokyo where everyone is too polite to run over anything with a car.
I hate to admit it, but I kind of like this! (Wouldn't this be a fun seaside hotel on the beach?)
