If you're saving your money on one big ticket item for the kids this holiday season, take a look at this fabulous dollhouse. Stackhouse is a modular dollhouse so you can change its structure by arranging the rooms into different structures. It's a house, a skyscraper, a castle, a village, a chalet.
You can start off small with just a room and balcony for $75 and go all the way up to the large castle for $540. Stackhouse is designed by Dutch designer Martijn van Tilburg and manufactured in Kirkland, Washington. For more information and photos of this incredible dollhouse, check out the Toideloi website.

Castle AND A Dollhouse
That is so cool! I want it!!
We bought our daughter the chalet doll house from Plan Toys that shares the similar angle roof and I think it actually limits the playability.
These styles look great, that's why we bought it, but if I were to do it over again I would buy a more traditional style.
Wow, so great for the many reasons already mentioned!
Gorgeous. Amazing. Wonderful. $540. Right. On to something realistic. I thought about Plan and the like, but although I like the modernist look, she is a kid and wanting to play "house" so I thought a traditional style would be best. I went with a Le Toy Van house that came fully loaded with furniture (the larger ones you have to buy the furniture separately, but they have a few mid-sized and small ones that come all-in). I think it will be a hit. (soon to be discussed at http://holidayhouserules.typepad.com - once I get my pics in order!)
I think the cost is actually pretty reasonable. It is solid wood, made ethically in the US, eco-friendly, great design, and can be purchased at various price points.
You could spend easily spend $150-250 on not nearly as nice products made by children, for children, and covered in lead paint and shipped around the world.
Plus, you can buy small and judge your child's interests. Extra pieces can be purchased if and when you know the child loves it. Terrific!
I ended up buying this for my 3 year old son for Christmas after I saw it here. Two rooms + one castle roof. We are really happy with it. Shipped fast as a flatpack, easy construction, no need for glue or anything. We played with at as a castle tower, turned the castle roof over into a sweet swimming pool, burned it down, rebuilt it, had dinosaurs and hippos attack, built an elevator, wet felted an ice skating rink, and made an elevator.
And this is before the addition of furniture or the dolls I bought. Yippie.
