Because we were out of town, we missed West Coast Green this year. Huge bummer, as we've gone to the last two and they were fantastic. Lucky for us, Jetson Green is blogging some of the clever new products he saw there.
We are particularly impressed by Stak Blocks by Oryzatech. They're compressed rice straw blocks that can be interlocked. (Rice straw is an agricultural waste product.)
The blocks are highly insulating and, believe it or not, fire-resistant. Oryzatech is looking for investors, so the product isn't available quite yet. But we do think that it looks like a great product that could make straw home-building that much easier.
