We talked time and time again about standing desks and although they seem healthier and the new alternative for you hip kids at home, I still hadn't found one that didn't resemble a rigged set up on office boxes. I used to say that when they make a pretty one I'd be on board. Well toot toot, this ship is setting sail as these desks are exactly what I had been waiting for.
These standing desks are a product of the Stoller Works studios and they are simply stunning. Until now, standing desks looked like something found in a cube farm or they looked like something McGyver built with a stick of chewing gum and 12 paper boxes.
Although this collection if located in the Queens Museum of Art, that doesn't mean it can't provide serious inspiration for something of your own design. It's always nice to see a beacon of good design in a world full of makeshift ideas until the talent rolls in behind the jmmy rigging that goes on!
You can see more of these looks from Stoller Works.

It's not nearly as sexy as these but I used brackets and standards for a wall mounted desk at standing height. I love it. And I also find that I don't waste entire evenings sitting and surfing endlessly on my computer....the iPad on the couch though is another story.
I'd like to try a standing desk if I can find a seat that you can 'lean' into. I'm having issues with my lower back-mostly my right side that is exasperated by sitting down. (And I've seen just about every Western doctor and acupunture to no avail) So I may try a "McGyver" version to see if it helps.
Thanks for the post.
These look so clean and crisp with nothing on them but once I got all of my stuff on it there would be a waterfall of cables down the back that would be very visible. I wish they had some mechanism to hid that stuff. I also wouldn't mind having a small drawer to hold stuff you need close at hand.
These desks have a quirky shape that reminds me of storks! I will probably be buying a Fredrik work station from Ikea and getting a comfortable stool, so that I can stand most of the time and sit when I get tired. Not as cute as these but sturdy and practical, and would match my Galant table in my office. Another way to go would be to make a tall desk out of wooden legs meant for a kitchen island, with a wood top. This could be painted or stained for a more cottage or traditional look.
I raised my laptop cart to standing height, and man,my feet are killing me! I need to keep taking breaks. Now I need a tall stool to sit on that will allow me to use the computer without lowering the cart, and without being too comfy (& tempting me to sit too long).
LyonStill & Dawn W: check out Katy Bowman, or other experts and resources on alignment (musculoskeletal). You're probably not standing right.
I built my own--just 3 pieces of wood to create a raised shelf to put my keyboard on, and a wood riser for the monitor. I can move the keyboard back to desk height when I want to sit.
My husband bought one; there are dozens and dozens available these days, not mention all the homebuilt/hack versions.
