- A glamorously styled vanity display from Lucky Magazine.
- Necklaces hung casually by a window look unexpectedly cool in Nancy and Ethan's House Tour.
- A row of necklaces make for a simple, pretty display in Levi and Evette's House Tour.
- Steven Gambrel piles on necklaces for a dramatic display in the Designers Vision Showhouse. Town and Country via Splendid Sass and Simply Smitten.
- Staggered rows of necklaces add a bit of color to a muted bedroom from Pure Style Home.
As these displays show, sometimes necklaces can look just as good on your walls as they do around your neck. Plus, hanging them in pretty arrangements lets you decorate and organize your space all at once.

Very nice, but don't the necklaces get dusty?
Love this! I actually did something similar a couple of months ago. http://flic.kr/p/dL9VeX
These are lovely!! The Lucky mag vanity image looks practical, too. Always hard to store lots of something and keep it pretty.
I finally found a good necklace storage system, a very easy DIY: http://www.adventuresindressmaking.com/2013/02/easy-home-dec-spray-paint-projects.html and another spray paint project for the smaller jewelry: http://www.adventuresindressmaking.com/2012/11/jewelry-storage-diy.html
Very pretty photo!
These look so lovely, and I have thought about creating a space like this in our bedroom, but I worry it would make the room look 'too girly' and more of a 'me' space than a space that's both my husband's and mine. I don't imagine he'd object though. Maybe just a few pieces, intermixed with art...
Thank you!
I cut a branch off of a madrona in our back yard and spray painted it white. It's my intention to mount it on the wall above my nightstand somehow and hang jewelry on it. I still haven't actually tried mocking it up yet, but I think it'll be pretty if I can pull it off.
i love the look of this but does so my cat. And that poses a problem.
much nicer than my breaking down and getting an Ikea Bygel rail!
I did something similar in my walk-in closet (which also serves me as a dressing room.) (I'm petite, it's not a huge walk-in, about 5x8', maybe!)
My clothes racks (the Clost Maid wire kind) run all the way down the wall on the opening side of the door, but only half-way down the hinge side (with the shelves from the back to the front). In the space between the end of the racks and the hinges of the door I have a small console table. My jewelry boxes sit on top, my shoes go underneath, and on the wall is a mirror and a couple of necktie/belt hangers with multiple hooks for my necklaces. (I have WAAAY more costume jewelry than any of the examples shown, partly because I make it and swap for it, as well as collecting vintage and other second-hand stuff... all my life!) Anyhow, the closet is off limits to the cats, the jewelry is easy to find (necklaces don't get tangled as they do in drawers), and I enjoy looking at the bling! My partner has his own room, but if we shared, this would also serve to un-feminine the room. (Dust has never been a problem, but that largely has to do with local conditions.)
i like it, but unfortunately it just looks like a lot of holes to patch up down the road. the jewelry in photo #4 is gorgeous
I found a vintage wooden Chinese checker board, added hanging hardware, and then used small S hooks through the holes to hang necklaces from. My style is less Versailles and more Grey Gardens so it's a look that works for me!
When I was in a dorm, I did this because I didn't have room for a jewelry box, and found I started wearing my necklaces a lot more. Now I just need a good way to hang my earrings- especially studs!
I don't wear stud earrings, but I keep a nice decorative plate (closer to saucer/side plate sized than dinner plate, like so: http://distilleryimage10.s3.amazonaws.com/231c7e28f62211e1bcd822000a1de9d1_7.jpg ) on my dresser, and use that to corral my rings and bracelets. Since they're all laid out in sight, I don't forget to wear them, and it stops them from getting lost in the depths of a drawer.
To Kathleen, mine are hung up like this (http://distilleryimage0.s3.amazonaws.com/762a1714735511e28ad722000a9f1498_7.jpg) and they don't get dusty - having them on display makes me wear them more often, so since they're being moved and worn often, they don't have time to gather dust. But I imagine you could swipe a duster over them if you were worried.
I did something like this with a funky picture frame around it. I think I probably got the idea of something I saw on AT! :)

I don't find my necklaces dusty - maybe because of the way my scarves keep brushing against them. But I am fond of the ostrich feather duster for stuff like this.
*off
I hate it when I do that.
Pretty! I actually use a thrifted frame I screwed hooks to every inch across to hang my necklaces on. Hung with command strips, and no holes in the walls to patch after!
I have a large mirror. I bought a bunch of suction cups with hooks. I stick these to the mirror and hang my necklaces from them. No holes in walls and I can see how the necklaces look with my outfit.
Necklaces which are made with strings shouldn't be hung.
