Anyone else fall completely in love with the intricately carved doors in Amhalise's Globally Eclectic Brooklyn Brownstone? Though her home is in Brooklyn, the beautiful, heavy-looking wood doors transported the home to another country. It made me jealous and wishing I could rent a place with such enviable architectural detail. Until I saw where the doors came from and realized this kind of design detail could be available to any of us creative and DIY!

Are these gorgeous wood doors expensive antiques from a far off land? Nope:

"Closet doors: believe or not, Pier 1! They are "wall panels" we made into closet doors."

I love it! Though we don't have a before photo of this room, it's not easy to imagine what the before may have looked like (you could probably look to your own plain closet doors to get the picture). If you're not very handy you could hire someone to turn wall panels that are the right size needed for your door frame into functioning door frames, or you could attempt the project yourself!

But, don't get dismayed if you like the look but don't want to do something as drastic as replacing your existing doors. Depending on the way the doors open, you could just hang or adhere carved wall panels to some parts of the doors to create a globally inspired look in your own bedroom. (Painting the doors a brown to match the wood color of the panels you purchase would help cement the trompe d'oeil effect.)

I don't see the exact doors in Amahalise's home on the Pier 1 Imports website anymore, but I did find a handful of possible options at pretty affordable prices (compared to say, an antique!):
