The actual stair treads themselves are completely level and safe, it's just the cladding underneath and to the sides that is asymmetrical. Do you think it would be disorienting to climb this staircase?

That's a fabulous staircase!
However, notice it's in an empty house. It will need to be decorated with it very much in mind and considered a piece of sculpture. And can you get a box spring up those stairs? I know, I'm a downer but ya gotta think of those things! :)
While I do really really like it, I don't think i'd have it in my house. Its just too busy to work around. But it really is gorg.

The wood with the black steel makes me think that a few vintage industrial pieces mixed in with with a Modern decor would be perfect.
And a black pot rack and wood cabinets in the kitchen, where you could echo the theme without competing with the staircase.
This is a very strong, sculptural piece. While it's very striking, it gives me feeling of knots, tangles, and sharp angles. I would rather see it in a commercial setting than in a private home as it dominates the room.
