- What do you love about your bedroom?:
- My house was built in 1920 or so to house mill workers for the Fulton County Cotton Mill. The bedroom is pretty much what sold me on my house (other than the kitchen skylights). I love all the original features that the bedroom has such as a tongue and groove ceiling, wood plank walls, and floors. This is the only room that has the original flooring. I'm not sure what type of wood it is... all I know is that it's dark with all kinds of marks and scuffs and I love it! The fireplace is a double sided fireplace which is quite nice, except when the animals use it as a second doorway.
- What are your tips for creating a beautiful, healthy and organized bedroom?
- After you finish wearing / trying on clothes put them back where they belong. Make the bed right after you roll out of it. It only takes a couple of minutes and automatically makes me feel better about the state of my room. Get a pet, they make your house that much warmer.
- In modern homes, bedrooms have become more than just a place to sleep; they can be a retreat, a home office, a library, a relaxation zone. What are some ways you make the most of your bedroom?
- I don't have cable because I feel like useless shows suck me in. Instead I choose to read a lot and my bedroom is my favorite place to read. If it's the daytime I am sitting in my chair reading with the window open next to me and at night I prefer laying in bed to read. My cat and dog would rather me be in bed reading so that they can get some snuggle time. Sadly, they don't fit in the chair with me.

Beautiful room and cute pets!! Looks like a very comfortable chair too.
That big friendly looking dog is what every bedroom needs!
Love your bedroom! Looks very cozy and simple--not as if a licensed designer staged it!
The ceiling is amazing! Good luck in the contest!
Can I please clarify the "get a pet" comment? PLEASE DO NOT get a pet to make your house "feel warmer" without thoroughly researching and knowing the commitment that it requires. Too many people get a pet without being prepared, and the result is a mistreated animal. If the only reason you're getting a pet is for design purposes, consider a plant instead.
I agree. Get a pet is the worst advice ever.
Steady on, pet lovers! Obviously Stephanie is herself a pet lover, and I think the "get a pet" comment implied "and treat it responsibly". I think it's unneccessary to have a go at her for not putting in a full disclaimer.
Anyway, I love the dark (navy?) wall and also that mirror over the bed - so unusual (although I might fear it would fall on me in the night... ).
Love this room. Do you mind sharing the paint colors?
Very, very lovely.
Thumbs up for the black wall and an animal passage fireplace. That is the cutest ever. And to everyone else who is so twisted up over the get a pet comment, take a chill pill.
Do you work for the NPS? The hooch perhaps? That Charley Harper poster is a give away.
I don't doubt she loves her pets, but I have seen my share of people who have pets and don't care about them at all. And even some people who love animals should not be pet owners.
Marvelous! Would have been even better if the room was better lit.
Thanks for the kind comments everybody!
For the angry pet lovers out there I work in animal rescue and have fostered a lot of cats and dogs. I'm not a proponent of getting an animal just to get one. A person should be financially ready and time comitted when they bring home a pet. However I love animals and could never imagine a house with a pet or two. To me my animals are what makes my house a home. I hope that clears things up.
Nice colors. And I love your Ugly Doll on the chair with the cat! Ha!
Where did you get that awesome comforter and chair/ottoman from?! Love them! (And the lazy cat on the chair!)
Love the colors and that really neat mirror! I would definitely take a nap here. What is the glass globe decoration (lamp?) on the left side of the dresser?
Lovely room, lovely pets! I know our home just wouldn't be the same without our cat.
This is another one of those bedrooms that I can't find a single thing I dislike. The colors, bedding, furniture, styling, all perfect. Good luck!
Nothing better than a comfy reading chair next to an open window. :) Very nice.
I loved it already, and your sweet animals just made it that much better. Those face! You totally win :)
my fave room so far; love the black (?) wall. and the cat reclining like royalty is perfect!
The dark wall is raccoon fur by Benjamin Moore. I'm not sure of the lighter gray paint color. The room was that color when I bought the house.
The duvet is from West Elm a couple of years ago and the chair/ ottoman is by Dux circa the 60's I think.
@EmmyL That is a clear plastic globe I found at an antique/vintage shop in Atlanta. It's by replogle. Here is the link on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Replogle-Globes-Crystal-Marquise-Diameter/dp/B000S5QQUK . I'm quite shocked at the price, I paid about $40 for it.
Counterpoint: I disagree. Get a pet is the greatest advice ever, even if it's just for design purposes. How about a stuffed pet? http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110424224726/scrubs/images/4/44/J.D._and_Rowdy.jpeg
Your room is lovely! And so are your babies. I can't imagine or understand WHY the comments on this post have gone to whether or not someone should have a pet and why they feel their opinion matters on this....nevertheless, your room looks comfortable and cozy. And you babies just add to that. Thank you for sharing.
I totally use an Uglydoll as a throw pillow, too! High five!
I am disappointed that the light switch plates are not level with one another ;) I also don't think they are made from sustainable materials.....lol
Where is that mirror from? It's so awesome. Love your space, I dig the greyish blue, yellow, black color scheme and the wood dresser adds great warmth.
I second the comforter source request. I like everything about the room.
Okay I swear I didn't see the duvet source reply earlier. Please ignore me!
That is the Abate mirror from Anthropologie: http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?navAction=jump&id=24682999&parentid=SEARCH_RESULTS&color=007

People looking for comforter source - if I'm not mistaken, isn't that Dwell Studio for Target from a few years ago?
NEVERMIND it's West Elm from a few years ago! I knew I'd seen it before, just couldn't remember where.

Sadly, no longer available, but I bet you can find it on ebay.
I like the comment about your flooring having scuffs and such and loving it! I have all wood, original floors in my home and love the character it brings. Mine even have areas that were cut out for some reason or another then replaced with other boards....the functionality of people once upon a time is still a remarkable characteristic to me. Very comfy-looking room and stylish as well!
beautiful - looks very relaxing. love the fireplace and the cute pets!
Very nice colors. The reading area chair looks stylish and also comfy.Beautiful floors.
The large mirror is practically placed by the wardrobe for use when dressing
but I especially like how it balances the door and opens your views!
What room does the fireplace share?
Did you add the wardrobes or were they built in? They feel so friendly.
Thanks JustJude! The fireplace in between the living room and bedroom. The wardrobes were built in by the previous owner... food thing too since I have 1 closet in the house besides these two.
