Name: Stephen
Location: Grays Ferry — Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
When I bought this place 10 years ago, it was a collection of small, poorly lit rooms. Gradually, I’ve opened it up — first by tearing down many of the existing walls, and eventually by purchasing the building next door and reconfiguring the space altogether.
Wherever possible, I’ve reused and repurposed architectural elements from mine as well as neighboring buildings. What was once floor tile is now a bathroom countertop; a urinal is repurposed as a sink, and a drinking faucet balances a vintage tap at each end. Decorative inlay slate (native to many homes in the area) acts as wainscoting in the dining room. I’ve used reclaimed marble countertops and restaurant quality water fixtures in the kitchen, and have incorporated additional elements, such as vintage doors and claw foot tubs, throughout. The result (I hope) is one of easy, love-worn, eclectic style.
Thanks, Stephen!

I love what I see so far and I want more!! :)
please sir... i want some more.
HT, please!
While I love this and want to see more, the idea of using a former urinal as a sink just grosses me out...irrational but true.
i love it!
Definitely leaving me wanting more!
I loooove the yellow doors and table set-up!!!
I was thinking that some of the delicate ladies here on AT would baulk at using a urinal sink. But then again, how would a delicate lady even recognise a urinal?

Love. Love, love, love.
You appear to have achieved what I hope for, though it often eludes me: a seemingly natural, easy, eclectic and warm space. You clearly have an excellent eye for reusable odd bits and objects. Really gorgeous home.
What a teaser! House tour, please.
what kind of post was this. the owner talks about reconfiguration and we see noting of the space but little corners. why talk about it then?
