Buried in this week's Design Hunting feature on New York Magazine's blog The Cut Wendy Goodman visits the home of Payton Cosell Turner — a young artist with a penchant for patterns. Payton creates elaborately patterned "wallpaper" by applying a varying pattern of small stickers on a wall. Lisa Frank fleur-de-lis!
Each wallpaper pattern is made up of thousands of hand-applied stickers. You can see more of her work at Payton Cosell Turner.

Totally cool!
I like it, but the patience omg, no couldn't do that, the girl must be a saint.
How trippy! I love it!
Great example of decalcomania.
I can't even express how much I hate this!!! OMG! Not to mention, she must work for a sticker company or be fabulously wealthy -- those decorative stickers are expensive, especially in the quantities she is using! (Check a craft store -- often $2-5 for a pack of maybe 10 of the fancy ones. What a waste of money!)
I was going to say.... This is very expensive and takes a lot of patience.
That's Hilarious! I love it!
I think it's beautiful - and if she licensed it to be printed on actual wallpaper, and it wasn't outside of my budget, I would buy it for my sons' room. AT, will you please let us know if you ever discover her having done that?
Holy crap... WOW. That is pretty awesome. It must have taken forever... how on earth would you remove it!?
Hey SherryBinNH - chill out. It's art and it's not meant to be a household project done by just anyone on their living room wall.
This looks so fantastic! I am in awe!... and yes, it is art so the fact that "those decorative stickers are expensive" and "It must have taken forever" is really irrelevant.
Very creative. I love how the patterns look from far away.
It's fantastic...way to think outside the box...though we are all entitled to our own opinions, you don't have to love it to appreciate it...I personally love it.
I believe she hand paints all those stickers. Pretty amazing!
sebert26 - I found this in the slideshow:
I also visited Payton and Brian’s studio in Bushwick, where they are working on the launch of their new design company, Flat Vernacular. Along with the sticker wallpaper, the pair will be producing hand-drawn and screen-printed wallpapers. Flat Vernacular launches August 25 with a limited rollout; a complete collection will follow in November, along with a show at the Ports 1961 space in Manhattan.
I don't know how affordable it will be, but at least it's somewhat accessible. I love it too!
This reminds me of the work of contemporary Tibetan artist Gonkar Gyatso:

I'm floored. I can't imagine anyone having that much patience, but it is definitely interesting.
See more samples of Turner's unique wall art
at her company website, FlatVernacular.com.
Turner's sticker wallpaper is spectacular -- no
photo can do it justice. We've seen what she created for Carol McFadden's room. (See Goodman's NYMag blog.) The artistic process by definition always takes time and patience
to produce any worthwhile work of art. Bravo,
Flat Vernacular, and Payton Cosell Turner. We'll be buying some soon.
to SherryBinNH - Your comments about cost are asinine. You've completely missed the mark. Her work is art, not some bargain basement deal. Had you checked out the New York Magazine feature you'd have realized her work is commissioned - this isn't a post about how to "revamp your apartment for $50."
yes, it is art so the fact that "those decorative stickers are expensive" and "It must have taken forever" is really irrelevant.
My thoughts exactly. It's a good thing Pope Julius II didn't think along SherryBinNH's lines...
Michaelangelo: I'm thinking of painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel with a depiction of the Creation of Adam, surrounded by a...
Pope Julius II: Ooh, I don't think that will work. Coloured paints are awfully expensive, and that sort of thing takes years.
Michaelangelo: Well, how about a flat white?
Pope Julius II: Awesome!
This is tremendously cool.
Hey Blandwagon, great analogy. Loved it. Maybe SherryNH thinks it took Jackson Pollack just a couple of hours to splat some paint on a canvas? Everyone, check out "Too Much Stuff" wallpaper on the FlatVernacular website. Awesome and amazing. Same kind of detail as the sticker wallpaper.
Wow, this is truly wonderful! Such intricate designs, and so original too. I love her company's website! I just might order some for my bedroom -- http://www.flatvernacular.com
never thought all those stickers i used to play with as a kid could be turned into such beautiful art. so creative. original. what warhol did for a soup can turner might do for stickers. and that's a compliment. vision is a gift, whether it's re-envisioning tomato soup or stickers. just wonderful. love it. want it.
Very original. The use of ordinary things like stickers and to transfrom it into something beautiful and unexpected...I'm very impressed. I want to see a full tour of this artist's home.
"we are all entitled to our own opinions", unless you have a personal observation to make ...then watch out. You can't slam someone for voicing what they take away from a post.
I love the last one. I could stare at a wall like that for hours!
Unbelievably creative! It looks so traditional...until you look at it close up.
yeah, the sticker designs reference antique and vintage wallpaper, which is so cool. imagine that sticker wallpaper in some 18th century english manor house. it works! amazing. i love it.
STUNNING. Very inspiring!
It would be fun to create a small sticker-art project, like 5"x7" or so.
