Last year I became completely enamored with the idea of raised hay bale beds. There's no dirt; just hay and the vegetable plants you'd like to grow. It's actually rather perfect for any size home, balcony or backyard with little to no effort involved. Have you tried it yet?

Even though I had my hopes set high for hale bale gardening this year. But apparently when you buy an old house things like electricity and stairs that won't send you plummeting to your death are more important than growing your own tomatoes.

The idea still has me curious, though: apparently you can keep plants practically weed free and the roots cool without committing to a full blown raised bed that has to be built, filled with soil and maintained. Do you love the idea as much as I do? Have you tried it? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
