Thinking about the coming fall weather makes me want to escape from the city, maybe to a beautiful country house like this one, which strikes the perfect balance between rustic and modern. Stone Creek Camp, designed by Anderson Wise Architects
, is a rustic retreat in Bigfork, Montana. The site slopes down to a lake; as you approach, the house, with its grassy roof, seems almost like a part of the hillside itself. The materials used throughout — the concrete, stone, wood, and steel — have a certain raw honesty that makes them right at home with the pine trees and stone outcroppings.
The connection between the built environment and the natural environment continues inside, where every bedroom has its own screened sleeping porch, and windows drop down to open up entire walls to the outside (as seen in the last photo). But my favorite part is the outdoor shower, and the walls that resemble an enormous stack of firewood. Don't you just want to reach out and touch them?
