Rapper Vanilla Ice (AKA Robert Van Winkle) is back with a brand new gig edition. Starting October 14, he will host a 10-part series on the DIY Network about renovating his 7,000 square foot mansion in Florida.
You didn't know that the rapper had those kind of skills (or that he was still rapping)? Yeah, me neither. Apparently Ice has 15+ years of home improvement experience.
I think it's pretty safe to say he won't be anything like Bob Vila or Ty Pennington. Describing his style Ice says, "The way I build and renovate homes is different…It's the rock-star style of doing it. We have fun. Maybe we'll drop some fireworks or a smoke bomb in the middle of everybody working."

America... the land of second, third, and fourth chances. I am so happy about this! Even after all of the has-been years since the "Ice Ice Baby " days of old, Vanilla Ice is very charismatic and I think it will be a fun show.
That's a "Must Miss"...
"Maybe we'll drop some fireworks or a smoke bomb in the middle of everybody working."
This may be greatest/most awful thing I've ever read.
Vanilla Ice is the winkle twinkle! He's still performing. We saw him rapping/singing in Dubai, and he alluded to his home-fixing proclivities. He also said he was developing a car condo so people can live with their flash cars. Check him out in Dubai in April:

In this economy, he'd be better off selling things to people living IN their cars...
gross
America... Land of big houses filled with talentless people.
Vanilla who?
*Snort* You're kidding me, right?
I'm glad Ice is still out there, bumping and grinding, and now also sanding. He is a nineties treasure. If you haven't seen the pinnacle of film that is "Cool as Ice" rent it and glue your eyeballs to the screen. Truly there never was a better example of a movie being so amazingly bad, it's good.
Personally though, I will not be watching Ice do it himself as I cannot afford cable.
So... many... jokes...
Including (but not limited to):
- whether the house itself will have a flat roof
- will he be stealing Bowie's doorbell so he can have the little "ting"?
- when you turn out the lights, will something glow? because that'd be a pretty cool design feature.
- will there be chumps on the wall, or will he forgo the chumps due to their capacity for eight-balls?
You know he's going to keep his composure when it's time to get loose.
</joke>
How does he still have enough money to afford a 7,000 sq ft house? You'd think he'd have MC Hammered it all away.
He used to go to my DH's high school in Dallas & a teacher there told DH that Rob really did walk the halls dressed & doing the whole "Vanilla Ice" thing. lol.
I mean, come one. You can't NOT watch at least the series premiere.
From what I've heard this guy is about as far away as MC Hammer (money-management wise) as you can get. Apparently he was very, very smart with his money and invested well in real estate when times were good. You wouldn't have imagined he's be that smart, but he was. Good for him. It looks like a fun show.
why all the jibes? he wasn't talentless. the minute you saw this post "ice ice baby" started going through your head. no one is obligated to stay in show business. he has other skills which he uses. frankly, this is typical. harrison ford was a carpenter before he started acting, colin farrell once said he'd probably be one if he weren't acting. tons of actors are into this stuff.
he lives in a mansion. i live in a studio apartment. i'm watching.
Very rarely does something make me wish I had cable... this is definitely one of thost things, though. Oh, this looks like FUN!
I wonder if he will be diy'ng wild animal cages. He is known to be a lover of wildcats like bobcats and has/had them as pets (this coming from a Texas neighbor.) I'm not sure if they are trained to jet ski or not. Or to do the running man.
"Please Hammer! Don't hurt him!" I wouldn't be surprised if there are some injury scenes. Fireworks on the job site is not good etiquette. Except if they are during lunch break.
"Wax a chump like a candle..." Vanilla Ice
I admit to the fact I'll have to at least see the first (and maybe second) episodes just to see if it's anywhere near how bad I figure it'll be.
This will be an invaluable resource for the many people who want to DIY the renovations on their own mansions.
Everyone is missing the obvious question - Are we sure it's HIS mansion?
