As the decorations start to come down (or maybe they already have), take a few seconds to make yourself a few reminder notes for next year. They'll come in quite handy when you pull the decorations from the attic 12 months from now. Here's why:

Right now there are many things fresh in your mind about your decor from this year. You might need an extra strand of lights, some new greenery or want to remind yourself that your tree stand needs some new bolts to help hold your tree in place.

The last thing you want to do Thanksgiving weekend (or whenever your decor gets pulled from storage) is make a trip to the store for odds and ends. Knowing what you'll need right off the bat can be a huge help.

In addition to avoiding the holiday hustle and bustle it can help you from digging through boxes to find what you're looking for. If you're not big into labeling them on the outside with more than a generic description, leave yourself a note that tells you what's inside.

If you still have the gift giving juices flowing, try writing yourself a note on suggestions for next year. It's never to early to start thinking about such things! You could even print off a few ideas you saw online that you'd like to try out, just tuck them right inside the lid of your storage boxes so you're sure to see them next year!
