What do House, Ugly Betty, Nip/Tuck, Saving Grace and Big Love have in common? They're all clients of Fantasy Lighting, Los Angeles's oldest lighting store. Located on Melrose, just west of LaBrea, they carry the largest selection of shades in city but if you can't find what you're looking for, they're also well-known for their custom work...
Although I'd driven by the store numerous times and admired their windows, it wasn't until this past week that I discovered why they're so popular among set decorators, production designers and interior decorators. I carted my bedroom lamp over to them, expecting to be lampless for the weekend. I set down the lamp and wandered away to take a look at a lamp that had caught my eye. Before I was halfway through the three room store, my lamp was fixed and ready to go, the cord neatly coiled as if it'd just come out of the box. And the charge was much less than I'd expected. Check out the store offerings, their online catalogue or work with them to turn that favorite vase into a favorite lamp.

SOOO many lamps that I want (need?)!! But I have no plans to be in LA anytime soon. Is there a resource like this in NYC? I never like any of the options at traditional home stores, and places like ABC are just out of my price range.
Thanks for sharing!
Love this place! Once when I went to visit family in L.A. I actually carried a lamp on the plane so I could take it to Fantasy for a custom shade.
To jump on Tumbleweed929's bandwagon, does anyone have recommendations for San Francisco? I have a trio of old lamps -- including a European-voltage Jielde -- that need repair and/or rewiring. Competence required, reasonable price much appreciated.
