We own a lot of chairs — many more than our two behinds will ever use in a standard week. And although technically there's enough space to leave them all on the ground, we're contemplating hoisting them up as decoration after seeing Bernard's Light & Bright Small Cool entry...

We know several folks who store extra chairs on porches (like these at Rita & Morgan's Home) but bringing them inside as wall decor really has us looking at our seating surplus in a whole new way...

Isn't that Ray and Charles Eames in the photo? Worth mentioning don't you think?
I don't mind the image of the chairs on pegs - reminds me of the way the Shakers stored their chairs.
But the second photo is a bit "Alice in MCM-Land" for me.
in a place that the floors mopped daily, like a restaurant, maybe. but otherwise i do not get the appeal. and it makes me nervous the chairs will fall down.
Looks pretentious.
I have some folding chairs that I'm going to hang on hooks behind a door.
And your right Chris. I was going to mention it as well.
Chairs intended for actual use can be stored out of the way when not in use, e.g., on Shaker pegs or behind a door. But using full size chairs purely as decorative accessories seems a bit silly and the very definition of unmodern. Besides, who wants giant non-functional dustcatchers heaped about in their space?
When I was renting a smallish place for a year, I hung a couple of my "extra" chairs on the wall in my home office/studio because there wasn't room to have them on the floor. It worked just fine there.
I like the chairs on pegs, assuming they are actually used sometimes.
I don't like the chair thing at all. It's just weird looking.
I think the photo with the wood slat ceiling feels like a wood floor and with the orange chair hanging there makes me feel disoriented like the room is upside down. I'm getting dizzy!

A few weeks ago, I started looking into the Thonet 214 chair. I am saving one of the images I discovered in my "inspiration file" to be considered at a later time.

bepsf, "Alice in MCM-Land" is right! I think I would have nightmares of being attacked by dive-bombing chairs if I tried to sleep in that bedroom
i have a bertoia wire chair hanging on the brick wall in my bedroom.
