So solid. The Strada Chair at Twentieth is a chair made of laminated layers of wood then shaped by hand. The outcome is a monolithic wood chair with an organic form.
It looks rather comfy, but there's no telling until giving it a test sit. And we don't see that happening for us anytime soon at a price of $5800.

I saw that chair a few months ago at the gift show downtown. It wasn't terribly uncomforable but after a few minutes I definitely wanted to get up out of it.
I was told it is made in a mold, not made by hand.
To be honest I passed on it because it seems like the type of thing that will show up in those thai teak stores in the next year, just like all that faux burl wood furniture is now. More of a gimmick than anything else.
$5,800! Even if i had a disposable income, no way.
That chair is by Kevin and Jonathan Racek of Stew Design Workshop. They were headquartered in Burlington Vt until recently. Their chairs are both beautiful and comfortable. I had one in my gallery (pine street art works) until a couple of months ago, and I still carry a table and coat rack of theirs. Simply gorgeous.
They are not made in a mold, at least not when I carried them. They are designed on a computer, cut robotically, then pieced together. Exquisite intricate workmanship.
I'm finding great comfort in the fact that you have featured two of the artists I carry (Stew Design and Paige Russell) in your recent features, as well as the story you did on my paint by number show.
As I sit here day after day struggling to sell to Vermonters, I'm heartened to know that at least I'm in synch with Apartmenttherapy.
They are available in NYC to the trade at Designlush in the New York Design Center. Really exquisite in person, more sculpture and art than chair, though totally useable as a chair. No one can walk by them without touching the voluptuous form.
