We've been staring at this photo for the past ten minutes or so, trying to figure out how exactly this aft deck transforms from a double bed to a dining area. It looks like the "bed frame" is actually a low table, with a futon mattress on top...? An interesting solution...

But this has inspired us to look at vintage coffee tables a different way: instead of chucking it, wouldn't it be interesting to use some of its elements to create a new bed frame? Take something like this table for example: the painted table top could be repurposed as a part of the headboard; and the legs reinforced to support a mattress and frame.
We could be crazy. After all, it is Friday.

I did a similar thing for my outdoor bed: 2 long benches support an inflatible mattress, sheets & pillows. And when I need more seating when friends are over, the beddings go and the benches are pulled out.
that looks like a bedroom in a romance novel! delicious.
I saw a thing on HGTV recently about how to take an old bedframe and make it into a coffee table...
I bought what I thought was a huge coffee table from an antiques market in denmark only to find it was an Indian bed! It's almost 4'x8' and I love that it has a dual function...although I don't know that many people would want to sleep in the middle of my living room.
This is ridiculously lovely. :)
The picture makes me so happy.
i could stare at this pic forever!
Get up, get up, you sleepy-head,
Get up, you lazy sinner!
We need those sheets for table cloths--
It's almost time for dinner.
i've always wanted a house boat (even though i'm a land lubber). that bed could totally work. you could easily fold up proper Japanese bedding into a storage cabinet during the day time (or underneath the table in a lovely box).
great poem, Aulaire!
