The great site Street Art Utopia documents and shares all things street art. It's nearly impossible (although fun) to choose just a few, but here are some of my favorite examples of stop-you-in-your-tracks stunning street art.
Maybe it's because I see so much of it in Los Angeles, but when I see good street art, it often impresses me more than a museum or gallery piece. Street art is creative, both in subject and in its use of pre-existing elements, it's logistically impressive (often put up guerilla-style — quickly or at night), and, when you unexpectedly happen upon it, it totally makes your day. While the definition of what is or isn't considered art varies, there's no denying that these pieces are amazing examples of artistic spirit.

Oh what fun! Is the hop-scotch 'hole' a drawing on the street or did someone actually paint around a hole? That one looks really dangerous to me if in fact it is a hole in the street.
The clothespin is a hoot. Love 'reboot universe'. The logs as colored pencils is brilliant and the peak behind the cement wall made me go "AH".
2,4,and 5 are awesome.
wow these are amazing, i love them all!
Love these.
Wonderful! We need more of this type of public art, especially on "those" days when rebooting the universe seems the best alternative.
There is plenty of Yarn Bombing in PDX. I liked the others a lot! Especially the Banksy-esque arms/legs on the zebra crossing stripe.
These are all amazing. I think I might have to have some giant colored pencils on our property.
Wonderful! All of them, which I NEVER say!! But I am especially fond of the clothespin!
