Rosie Li is a designer fresh out of RISD's Furniture Design program, but she already has a great line of work that is completely unique and intelligent. There is a definite theme with optical illusions to her work, and one that especially caught my eye was her Striped Bench.
The Striped Bench is made of wood and paint, with the neon pink stripes situated in shallow grooves cut into the surface of the bench.
As Li states, this bench "is an investigation of surface and volume." Simply put, this bench is boxy, but the graphic elements employed by Li's optical illusions flatten and transform the piece. From one perspective, the bench "appears to transform into a swatch of neon pink stripes." What that means is, this bench is really cool!

Shaw's Original Fir...
I like the bench, but I don't get the "illusion" part... it's just a diagonally striped bench. It's attractive, but it is what it looks like, no illusion is involved. (Or am I missing something!?)
@sherrybinnh
Well, the stripes are painted in such a way that, from the perspective of the first picture, they look like they were painted on a flat surface. If you don't consider that an illusion, then I dunno what to say. Of course, it only holds up from that 1 angle (and maybe from the opposite side as well?)
