Rosie Li is a designer fresh out of RISD's Furniture Design program, but she already has a great line of work that is completely unique and intelligent. There is a definite theme with optical illusions to her work, and one that especially caught my eye was her Striped Bench. The Striped Bench is made of wood and paint, with the neon pink stripes situated in shallow grooves cut into the surface of the bench.
As Li states, this bench "is an investigation of surface and volume." Simply put, this bench is boxy, but the graphic elements employed by Li's optical illusions flatten and transform the piece. From one perspective, the bench "appears to transform into a swatch of neon pink stripes." What that means is, this bench is really cool!
