For the first 9 years of my life I lived in upstate New York in a small little town. We were lucky enough to have a pond very close by that would freeze over during the winter. Needless to say, as soon as my parents thought I was old enough I had my very own pair of ice skates. I've never been able to part with them yet haven't found a good use for them either.

We've given you inspiration and DIY ideas for wreaths on the front door but this is a little outside the wreath box. If you're like me and just can't seem to let go of your old ice skates — here's a fun and cute reuse.
Stuff the skate with your favorite holiday brush — anything from tree branches to cranberries, hang it from your door and you're all set. If you want it extra wintery, you can easily spray it with some of that faux snow spray.

the smaller the skate the better, but a cute nostalgic idea.
Great story Kristen! This is a great idea. I also had my own skates and would spend hours skating with my friends - wish I still had mine!
I've been trying to sell my son's (almost new) skates on Craigslist to no avail. At least I know what to do with them now if I'm indeed stuck with them.
Thank you for this great idea! I'm off to find those old ice skates that I've been too sentimental to give away.
Ice truck killer style!
So cute!
I'd worry about the skate banging against the glass, but this is attractive. I like that it evokes the actual season (you know -- winter), and a sense of nostalgia that also has a link to reality. An actual fresh idea -- so welcome.
oh so sweet. Love it. A Dutch friend of mine hung his wooden shoes from childhood on his balcony and fills them with birdseed.
My figure skating club made centerpieces for club events by spray painting old "lost and found" skates silver or gold and using them as vases. We used seasonal decor to fill them. I believe we used a block of wood with a 1/8 groove in it to hold it upright. You can also take the blades off and just use the boots.
I love it. I have an ornament like this and it is so old fashioned, so Hans Christian Anderson.
