Mason jars are extremely useful in the kitchen, even cooks like "hacking" them. But we've noticed they've become popular material for not only preserving food , but also homemade lighting solutions (a trend our friends over at Re-Nest also noted). From creating your own Sun Jar to hacking a chandelier together, here are some creative reuses of Mason jars as lighting solutions using solar and LED tech to light up our lives.
1. Sun Jars For Your Garden: Sun Jars are beautiful solar-powered lights for your garden. They feel like you've got fireflies caught inside of them. You can use them anywhere.
2. Make Your Own Sun Jar: Creating your own Sun Jars isn't that hard, all you have to do is follow this guide and you'll save yourself a bunch of money.
3. Mason Jar Chandelier: Using a ceiling mounted utensil rack (IKEA Kroken) and the IKEA Hemma cord set, you can hack yourself a beautiful chandelier. The Hemmas need to be screwed into the lids of the Mason jars. Then, they just need to be fastened to the utensil rack with zip ties. (via Re-Nest)
4. Etsy Store Treasure Again Mason Jar Lights: If you don't feel confident enough to assembler your own Sun Jars, then head on over to Treasure Again. This Etsy store has got a few different solar Mason jar lights, as well as whimsical chandeliers.

What's the photo at the top left of this post? I see the others described in the post, but not that one. Those look nifty.
I'm with you, ElScorcho, I like that one best. Looks like maybe an LED version.
I think the top left jars are the solar ones?
Love this post! I have so many mason jars left over from my wedding, been trying to come up with a use for them!
I'd so much like to make something similar to the chandelier! I love, love, love your mason jars! But they are not available in Germany. :-( I'm jealous!
Hi! The jars featured in the top left photo are Mason Jar Solar Lights in antique blue Mason Ball Jars. Can be found here:

The Solar Light Lids are handmade and designed by me, so that they can be twisted on to Ball Jars. This set comes with the jars and lids together.
I do also provide the handmade solar lids in my shop, that are a nice way to convert left over Mason Jars from a wedding, into garden lights!

The chandelier using the canner basket is really cute!
For those looking for a way to use up leftover jars....how about preserving some food! I think that was the original purpose, no?
Using the jars for preserving food is something I am very familiar with. If you want to see just a sampling of the food we preserve, check this out:

I've saved jars for years, using them for food storage, and saving the ones that no one wanted because they wouldn't seal anymore. The goal was to find a use for those jars instead of their being tossed. I'm GLAD I saved them and have found a way for them to be used again!
