Name: Alec (the first Apartment Therapy LA editor!) & David
Location: New York, New York
This is the apartment I share with my fiance David. It's a one bedroom (about 550 square feet) in Hell's Kitchen. The apartment has a few amazing aspects (a little back yard! Really tall ceilings!) and some not so great ones (a tiny bedroom that can only fit a double bed! No closets!) Luckily, the amazing aspects far outweigh the not so great ones. More
Q: I am moving into my very first apartment in August, and I have some questions for decorating, furniture placement etc. I want to make my new apartment feel cozy and adult. I do not want my new home - although temporary, because I can still go to my parent's on the weekends to do laundry for free (yay!) - to feel like a dorm, or a college student's place. More
Transcending time and space. Gorgeous and only minimally functional. Dark and dramatic. These are only a few of the requirements that I would want in my dream bathroom. Who cares about function when a moody personal retreat is only a few impractical yet stunning bathroom accents away? More
Over two years ago we asked our readers to help pitch their ideas for Treehugger's founder, Graham Hill, new 420 square feet apartment. Earlier this year we gave a sneak peek at the design concept, and now the project has been completed! With tons of transforming spaces and multipurpose furniture, it's a great exercise in small space living. More
Name: Matt, Betsy, and Inge (18 months) Siber
Location: Wicker Park, Chicago
Size: 2,100 square feet
Years lived in: 6 years, owned
I visited Matt and Betsy on a cold, rainy Saturday afternoon, which couldn't have been in starker contrast to the vibrant mix of warmth and color that greeted me the moment I walked into their home. A home filled with jazz on the stereo, beautiful art, handcrafted furniture, and lots of smiles. I found the playful beauty of their space endlessly interesting, and I think you will too.
Using a few basic supplies from your local craft store (plus some odds and ends you may already have on hand!), here's how to make your own sunburst mirror to hang on your porch or patio. I spent under $10 and just a couple of hours to make this mirror out of a simple mirrored candle plate and some wooden dowels. Follow my exact template or make your own pattern! More
Since I recently bought a 1919 farmhouse, and I am currently in the concept stage of a new kitchen design, I have made my kitchen inspiration board a little less 'dream' and a little more 'possible'. More
