There is something cozy and comfortable about old stoves. My mom shares stories of huddling by her grandmother's during the cold winter months when she was a kid, and whenever I come across one, I wonder about its past life and the great family meals that were cooked on it.

These old stoves have a cult following, but I do wonder how practical they are; energy efficient, holding a temperature for baking, etc. I finally have a very good modern electric oven, and it beats the heck out of the old Wedgewoods I've used. My cookies are vastly improved.
We have an O'Keeffe and Merritt stove and I love it more than any other stove I've ever had. We are renting but if I ever buy a home I'm going to get a refurbished one. Yes, the oven temp isn't exactly accurate, but I've learned to adapt to the old girl and plan accordingly.
thanks for reminding me to go check out the kitchn. i hardly ever remember to go to that site since the switch-up. all the other content is on the main site, it seems like the kitchn stuff should just be incorporated here too.
