Every home has something to teach and each small home in the Small Cool contest holds lessons and tricks for living well while living small. Below is some wisdom from Monday's crop of entries including a using caster wheels, optimizing vertical space and creating a dining room when you don't have one.

Display It

If you are short on space, see if there are any functional items, like Tanay's beautiful cutting boards, that are attractive enough to hang and display.

Sleep On It

Choosing a storage bed is one of the smartest options for a small bedroom like Anna's as it becomes essentially another dresser or wardrobe.

Island Time

Formal dining rooms are becoming less common in any size home, but especially in a small apartment you may need to find other areas for eating. If your kitchen can accommodate it, an island can become a dining table.

Just add wheels

Adding caster wheels to furniture is a great small space trick for increasing the usability of a room.

Vertical is the Name of the Game

Ria really takes advantage of her walls for storage in most every room of her home including this kids' room with ample wall shelves and even displaying a collection of hats like art.

Raise High the Roofbeam, Carpenters

The white wash on the sloped ceiling and beams mimics the brightness of the sky and prevents this home from feeling claustrophobic from all the wood.

Go Up

LeeAnn could have chosen a traditional bar cart to house her glasses and spirits, but using these tall shelves provides a lot more room and the glass shelves have a similar vibe to more typical bar carts.
