If an efficient use of space with a large working surface is your thing, a corner desk setup is where it's at. Working from a the inside elbow of a corner station, you get the best of both worlds: usable workspace on the left and right! This is particularly useful if you've got a dual or multiple system setup, or use one section for computer work, the other for papers and other material items. Being sent to the corner isn't a bad thing at all as illustrated by today's DeskTops tour...
This setup comes courtesy of Carolina
from Argentina. Her desk is certainly unique, and we haven't been able to find one like this, however this setup is a prime example of how you can hack yourself a workstation together from IKEA bits. To start things off, we'd use an IKEA Expedit desk
($50) as the main surface.
The second surface can be put together using an IKEA Expedit 4×2 shelf
($69.99). By taking out one side, and getting rid of the innards, you'll end up with a thin desk surface, that will emulate this setup. Note, Carolina has also made the smart move of elevating her Alesis M1 speakers a few inches ontop of stands to line them up to what we imagine is her ear height, instead of aimed at her torso. A massive PC case sits ontop of the nexus of the desk setup; we would have preferred to have hidden this underneath the desk to regain additional desk space.
For the drawers, we'd either use IKEA Malms in various configurations in order to get a similar setup. A sliding Jonas drawer could also be used under the main desk for storage. The tiered setup of desk over rolling storage units offers a hideaway niche on both sides of the L-shaped desk, giving her the option to discretely hideaway office supplies and items like power strips/cords, while also giving her an attractive spot to position a digital display clock.
And we're not 100% sure, but that sure looks like an adidas shoebox used to hide cable clutter. A smart budget solution!
